Hard to Find Restoration Parts

67CoronetR/T

I just bought a 1967 Coronet and am trying to create an R/T clone. In my never ending crusade for parts, I have found it incredibly difficult to find some of the specialty parts. I have spent hours scouring the internet for used originals, NOS, or any interchangeable parts, but can not really come up with much. In order to try and remedy my frustration, I decided that I want to start up a business reproducing quality parts. I currently work in the auto industry for a company that prides itself in quality and I too am picky about it as well. I am a senior at Purdue University in the engineering program and know that I am capable of making this happen. The only thing I am missing is what people are looking for in the market. I know mostly what people are looking for in the 66-67 Coronet/Charger area, but not much else regarding other year B bodies. I would really appreciate it if any of you could take the time and give me some feedback as to what you guys are looking for or anxiously awaiting to be reproduced. Thank you all for your time!

How about some full quarters for those pre 1968 Coronet/Satellite guys. That should get the momentum rolling. Trunk lid for a 68/69/70 Coronet/Roadrunner. Rear finish panel for 69/70 Coronet/Superbee...Make a decent turn signal switch for most models. Most new RMFG/aftermarket ones now days are flimsy and cheap.....just a couple thoughts I guess.

Good luck buddy...cheers to your noble adventure.

Is there anybody is the Michigan/Indiana area that has any of these parts or 67 R/T parts that I could borrow to take measurements and make a copy of? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks for your time and feedback everyone!

I don't live in Michigan but you can borrow my 72 roadrunner grill. You can make some $$$ out of selling reproduction 72 grills.

66/67 body panels for the Satellite/Belvedere/GTX. Have you ever checked out PG Classic's for parts? Surprised Bankerstoy hasn't spoke up about defroster vents for the 66/67 B-Bodies!

Which intrument cluster do you have? The R/T's with the rally cluster do not have that emblem; for whatever reason only the standard cluster cars have it.

I had the same problem with the 71 GTX. My solution was to get someone to make a mold of an original with modeling clay, then I mixed some liquid fiberglass, tinted it with black model paint and filled the molds. Once dry, trim and sand to correct, then paint the red.

to get the molds, I just e-mailed people with 71's for sale on e-Bay till I got someone who would make the mold. I think it was the second person who agreed to do it once they understood the clay wasn't going to hurt thier car.
I still have the molds, and I think I've made about 20 castings so far.

Rear window "corners" for 66-67 B body.

Some of these cars are finally starting to rust through here, like the 68-70 cars do.

I've seen more and more lately. This would make many more cars restorable rather than parts cars.

Might be difficult or a two piece set because the quarter seam is low.

Seems like the offending area is about 6 inches give or take (in a radius) from the actual bottom corner of the rear glass, and does contain the quarter seam.

Anything and everything for the 73/74 satellite / Roadrunner.
It was the last of the last and now that they are more than 25 yrs old in many states there is no smog laws, thay were the last year befors the cadillic converter.Exterior trim is virtually non existant. many interior parts will fit from the 71-72 probably would not spend much time there. Today they can be the poor man's hotrod.

Thanks a bunch

An undertaking like this could run into more start up costs than anyone would realize. If I had the talent and means it would be something I and many others would love to do. I think to get started you could take a few small items and make them to see how well they would turn out. Once they are done, see if you can sell them and actually make a modest profit. After you have that done and the molds work then pick a few more items and do the same things. I would say that you need to specialize in certain things do a super job,get the product and name out there and have people want what you have to offer. Be the best out there at a price point that is affordable. Good luck and I hope it works for you.

By the way hoods and other parts for a 70 coronet,RT and Superbee this is a one year only car. Another idea for you...reproduce parts for cars that are one year only.

Good luck with this, I do hope it gets off the ground!

My parts suggestion - ANYTHING CONVERTIBLE RELATED! I don't think anyone is repop'ing the 70 B Body top switch, for example, and finding some of the moldings like the well opening stuff and windshield frame is tough! Some of the lower dash trim plastic pieces would also help. Thanks

You read my thoughts. I'm working on reproducing some of the '67 R/T stuff. I've got 98% of the R/T and other one year only stuff for that car. I'm in process of creating a mold for a part already. My plan is to be at Nats 2012 selling product. I'll be there this August with a survey to get some market research done. Thank you so much for your response! It's greatly appreciated. Could you pm me a list of stuff you are looking for to be reproduced?

I second the '66/'67 B-body rear window corners. Also, the chrome moulding at the bottom of the C-pillar.

I need the special parts for my 67 R/T too. How about the grill surround? It could probably be made out of fiberglass or plastic like new grills too. Also the seat medallions and rear quarter R/T emblems.

Those are available from at least 2 sources, and the same part fits both Dodge and Plymouth.

FWIW- my wife makes one of a kind polymer dolls.
She went to a convention this weekend, and was approached by a fairly well known company that makes limited edition (signed/numbered) dolls from artists originals.

She'll have an inside track as to what's involved in copying and reproducing in limited quantities, and in high quality/high detail.

That should be interesting.

...and I second 66/67 bumpers. Most chrome shops won't rechrome a bumper with any rust through at all, and I've seen dozens of rears (both Dodge and Plymouth) that have a nickel or less sized hole in the lower pass side near the corner. I wonder what the deal is with that, cause otherwise the bumper is OK.

Just to give you an idea of the hardest to find parts, hit e-bay, look at the parts that people are asking the highest prices for, then check the COMPLETED sale prices. If they are consistently selling for near the asking price, odds are that's a HARD to find part!.

Some of the one's mentioned above are tremendously tough, a good 72 Bird grill is not only a one year only part, but a low production number (I think about 6,000, so most likely there were only 7500 total grilles made) and sell for in the neighborhood of $1000-1250.

I know a few of the really hard to find stuff has just started being re-popped in the last couple years and I've missed out on the roll out of a lot of them, but asking like this, and checking e-bay, you'll be able to check catalogs from a few people like Laysons, Year One, and PG to see if the part is being made, and have an idea of what quality those parts are.

Thanks for thinking of us, maybe we can make ya the next Google :)
