New wheels for the 66

With the K member sent off to be powder coated and the engine at the machine shop I bought a set of Torq-Thrust "D". Thought you guys might like seeing a picture.

Can't speak for anyone else, but you hit the nail on the head for me! I absolutely enjoyed seeing that pic - those are my favorite wheels for a car of that vintage. Sign me up as a satisfied customer!!!

Haliband is back in business with their origional wheel designs also..

They are the only ones with screw in center caps and come in dozens of sizes and back spacing.

Vintage also makes a good looking wheel, but you have to ordered them and I didn't want to wait. I like the old cash and carry. Pay your cash and carry what you bought out the door. We have a local wheel shop

Some info about the car. I bought it from the original owner which was an 87 year old lady. The car had been setting in her basement since 1974. Her husband had passed away some years ago. He was a Chrysler distict rep and had special ordered the car. It has a 383 (commando) 4 barrel auto with a 323 gear with a suregrip. I really like the color with black interior.
It is virtually rust free with mostly originial paint The engine was locked up so I decided to build a 451 (400 with 440 crank) and put the 383 away in case I decide to reinstall it later. I am installing the (12in) large disk rotors so it will stop as good as it runs.
I'm having a alot of fun with the car and hope to enjoy it for years.

I think I need a taller tire for the rear. The tire on the rear now is a 215 70. I think I need a 235 75 for the rear and move the 215 to the front. I plan to have the rear springs rearched and set it up about 2 to 3 inches.
The tire just looks to small to me?

215 isn't nearly big enough, but it's close to the original tire size.

I think you would be much happier with 255/60 15s on the rear and the 215 70 for the front should be about right.

I went with a 235 70 and man it is close. I think I have maybe 1/2 inch. I still have not painted the rear drums but it is on my list,

Yea on a 66 or 67 Americans TTD's are not available with enough BS to fit a decent size tire.

They come with like 3 3/4" BS on the 7" and 8.5" wide wheels and that aint enough......

A 7" wheel needs 4.25" of BS and an 8" wheel needs 5.25" BS, other wise it's small tires on these cars...............

So create your own. Take them to a wheel place and have them widened. Just cut the back off, and add a little to it.

I have either 7 or 8" wheels (can't remember) with Mopar factory stock back spacing (4.25 or 4.5") with 255/60 X 15" tires on my 66. The lower profile 60s are the secret here as I don't think 70s would make it. I have 215/70 X 15s on the front to help raise the front for weight transfer.

I know I could run a wider tire if I go with a 60 series tire but I'm going for the 70's look with the car raised up in rear and front. With the car raised up the 70 series tire fit the quarters better. If I decide to go with a wider wheel and tire I can changed the 8 3/4 to an a body housing.

Thanks for the head's up on the Halibrands! I didn't know that they were back; I just thought that all of the sets that I had recently seen were people who were digging out their old Sprints from attics and sheds and refinishing them!

I have a project in the works that their Five Spokes are perfect for since AR has no intention of giving us any help on the back-spacing issue with the TTDs. I went to their website and they have exactly what I need...plus the legendary Halibrand name! :yes:

I have the car stored away from my home and I only have a few pictures of it from when i was taking pictures of the under side up on the lift.

The 60 series tires look good on your car. If I going with the stock height the 60 series look like the way to go.

Question about your car. Does your car have a front sway bar? Mine has a front sway bar which is original I'm sure. I was wondering if all big block cars in 66 have front sway bar or was it optional?
My 66 is a early production model so it has the sway that bolts to the strut bars instead of the lower control arms.

I looked at a 67 coronet last week and he had a 275/60/15 on it really looked good.

The 60 series tires look good on your car. If I going with the stock height the 60 series look like the way to go.

My car HAD a sway bar when new but as with most race cars it was removed. It is just added front end weight and serves not good purpose on a 1/4 mile car.
