HEMI-ITIS 08-14-2010, 05:10 PM Lets say your in the staging lanes racing with your regular association, the pairing has been made and there are still a few pairs in front of you.You are paired with a guy you know for YEARS and he id having a problem starting. What would you do?????:edgy:
PDFROGMAN 08-14-2010, 05:14 PM I always help out friends
I have gone as far as rebuilding a transmission for a guy in the pits
love those old steel garbage pails great holding fixture for a rebuild
unless the person is a total douche bag I always help out
daredevil 08-14-2010, 05:36 PM wait on him but follow directions of track personnel
SUPERSTOCKRACER 08-14-2010, 06:38 PM i'd wait and let the pairs of cars that are behind me go and wait for my paired opponent.
if after all the cars are gone and my opponent still cant get his car running then i'd stall a little longer then proceed to the burnout box and drive very very slow.
i'd want to give him every opportunity to make his pass.
now thats etiquette.
440gtx 08-14-2010, 07:30 PM you should always try to give the guy a chance to get his car started, side by side racing always better.
SUPERSTOCKRACER 08-14-2010, 07:42 PM you should always try to give the guy a chance to get his car started, side by side racing always better.
absolutely!
i guess you'd only b line it and make a dash for the burnout box is if your desperate for a win.

side by side racing next to you would have been better than going against a 12.03 car.
i want to get chased down by someone once in a while. 8.50's is better.way to go c.

Well stated;do unto others...The roles could easily be reversed.

4406brl 08-15-2010, 05:40 PM I was too busy with the strippers that SSR brought so!!!!!
I am still shocked that Clinton's slip said he bulbed and I never saw it come on???? I was on the tower when he ran and it never lit...
383man 08-16-2010, 07:46 AM I also would wait and give him every chance he can have to get it running and race me. Thats just good sportmanship in my book and thats what most of us are all about. :) Ron
SUPERSTOCKRACER 08-18-2010, 06:29 AM you gotta give the opponent every chance to get his car going.unless you have a different agenda. leaving your opponent to get dq is totally unethical.
Cranky 08-21-2010, 09:48 AM It depends on the brand of car they're driving :D

very :grin:true!
wedge5 08-26-2010, 06:49 AM I would also give him every chance to get his car going.
BUT
There is a guy at our track that I never wait on! WHY? He likes to screw around in the staging lanes and has said that is his strategy. He waits for the other racer to Pre-stage and lets them sit there and"get all nervous" while he goes through his pre race routine. He did it to me once when I first started racing and yes I red lit! I now do my burn out and race to the staging line and set off both lights so HE has to hurry his routine. It gets him everytime:yes: By the way just so you don't think I am a A$$, he drives a camaro
SUPERSTOCKRACER 08-26-2010, 03:41 PM I would also give him every chance to get his car going.

had the same thing with another racer who always wanted me to stage 1st.
the rule for proper etiquette is faster car stages last.:edgy:
Max Weg 08-29-2010, 04:14 PM Where Do you get that staging rule I can't seem to find it anywhere?
Max Weg
SUPERSTOCKRACER 08-29-2010, 05:05 PM Where Do you get that staging rule I can't seem to find it anywhere?
Max Weg
if you've been racing for awhile, its just proper to let the faster car stage last.
thats we do it here in good ol' USA!
Max Weg 08-29-2010, 07:54 PM Sorry I have raced awhile on both side of the border and no where is it a standing rule. I guess I missed that one in etiquette school EH!

yep, your sure did!:rolling:
ask a few of your buddies, what they do.
not everyone does it but the good racers know what to do at the starting line.
Max Weg 08-29-2010, 08:49 PM Your right its called win!!!!
Max Weg 08-29-2010, 09:01 PM I guess as a foot braker I am not going to sit on the convertor for 10 seconds to wait for the faster car that probably runs a trans brake. At best I would go red worst case i would hurt the converter or trans doing this many times. I have been hung out that way before. So sorry if we face off sometime I will not stage before you even if you think I should. I don't hang anyone out once they stage I stage up quickly.

i believe theres a 7 second time rule otherwise DQ according to NHRA ruling.
SUPERSTOCKRACER 08-29-2010, 09:21 PM here ya go max weg.
rules from nhra
Mar 27, 2009 ... The auto-start system limits the time to seven seconds that a driver can stage once their opponent has lit both pre-stage and stage beams
Max Weg 08-29-2010, 09:30 PM That is if auto start is engaged, and then from when you are both staged how long until the tree is activated? But no matter its to long to sit on the convertor.
Max Weg
383man 09-07-2010, 04:35 PM I dont know about that being any kind of rule ?? But what I do is I do my small burnout and heat the tires up and then I go right up and stage. Sometimes the other guy has already staged but most of the time I go in first. But thats just me as I want to race and not fool around and I dont care in bracket racing who goes in first. When I stage first I dont come up on the converter and roll into the stage lite until the other guy pre stages. Ron
