I don't think that is the one with the retard built in, cause there aren't any wires for it. I'm also not sure they were used that early on.

That distributor per the number shown is listed for a 1970 383 4 barrel for both auto and manual trans for B,C, and E bodies. Not anything super special.

The bigger than normal vacuum advance unit has a solenoid on the back side and that is what I need pics of.If you compare it to a regular vauum unit you will notice the difference.

What does the solenoid attach to on your '70 engine? Is there some kind of emissions system on the engine that is triggered by a solenoid? If not, then a standard vacuum advance and distributor should work.

I just checked my 70 Service manual, and it says ALL 383 and 440 engines (except six packs) are equipped with the advance with retard. It is tied in to contacts on the throttle linkage to retard the timing when the throttle is closed.

That being said, I don't know that I've ever seen a 70 383 or 440 with the advance pod tied to the carb electrically.

As far as what the "back" of it looks like???????? I guess it has some extra wires coming out of it, and so does the carb.
