Sneke_Eyez's 1969 Dodge Coronet 440 Coupe

I found this car almost 4 months ago now. I had been casually looking for 1969 Coronets, but knew I couldn't afford one that was restored. I've wanted one forever, since I was somewhere around 10, so I was always on the lookout for a deal on one. This car is my dream car.

My grandfather came across this car on Ebay, shot me the link, and told me to see what happened with the auction. The guy lived in Southwick, a town almost in CT that is ~1 hour and 20 minutes from my house.
He had listed the car with a few crappy pictures, a relatively crappy description, a $1000 starting bid, and a reserve.
The auction ended, and nobody even bid.
I emailed him through Ebay, got his cell phone number, and called him about the car. He went over the basics with me, but then had to go to work.

After that, I lost all contact with him. I'd call his phone and he wouldn't pick up, and he had no voicemail so I couldn't leave him a message.
It was frustrating, but I would try over and over again some days, in hopes of getting in contact with him.
Finally, I gave up.
Two weeks later, while browsing craigslist, he had posted the car in the Western Mass section.
I immediately emailed the email address associated with the CL ad, and he emailed me right back.
Gave me a line about almost selling the car a whole bunch of times, having a messed up cell phone, not wanting any BS, and wanting $3900 for the car.

I couldn't swing that, so I sent him an email back saying that I would have to pass on it.
3 weeks later, it was still on CL, so I emailed him and asked him if he would take an offer. He replied with a simple, "Sure, go ahead."
I made him one that I considered to be too low, but that was the maximum I could afford to spend on the car, and to my surprise, he accepted it.

I went and looked at the car at the beginning of last week, and Saturday night (9/18) two of my buddies helped me use the 2006 Ram 2500 Hemi from my work and a rented 16' trailer to pick it up.

Everything went off without a hitch, and I'm now the proud owner of my dream car!
Just got the title application done this morning! Should have it in the mail soon!

1969 Dodge Coronet 440 Coupe - Not a hardtop!
Numbers Matching 318 V8 / 727 3spd Automatic.
Triple Green (Green car, green vinyl roof, green interior)
Totally complete, everything this car came with from the factory is there, sans the original 2bbl carb and intake and valve covers. Those have been replaced with a 4bbl Edelbrock Carb and an Edelbrock Performer Intake, and some nice black wrinkle finish Mopar Performance Covers.

It needs some body work, but its all there, and thats what counts to me!

The engine runs like a dream, the tranny shifts great, all it needs is a lot of body work and some brake shoes and its ready to go on the road!

Now that I'm learning how to weld and bend metal to do my own body work, I will be able to restore this car almost entirely by myself, so I don't have to be daunted by paying to have a body shop redo it!

Unfortunately, that picture up there is the only good picture I have of the car.

Thanks! For now it'll stay triple green. I actually like it more than I thought I would, the interior is a slightly more pleasant green than the green they had on the A-Bodies, and the green color of the exterior of the car has really grown on me.
Eventually I want to paint it a Dark Candy Black Cherry color, something along the lines of House of Color's "Wild Cherry". I've always fricken loved that color, and I think the 69 Coronet looks amazing in it. And then I'll go with a black interior, because honestly, I think black interiors are just damn classy.
It is funny though, because I've always wanted a green car, and thats why I've decided on F6 Green for the Dart, and now that I've bought a car that came green, I want to change the color to something else...
I've been planning how I would build my dream 69 forever, and now that I've got one I'm overwhelmed at the possibilities. I honestly just can't wait to get to work.

Also forgot to mention that I grabbed an aircleaner today off of a Dodge van at the junkyard for the car, just for something temporary until I can get something better looking, but it'll do its job.

I missed your post earlier, but I paid $2500 for the car. A steal, in my opinion, when compared with the other 69 Bs (mostly Coronets) that I had looked at, and especially when it is in as complete, original shape as it is...

In new news, I picked up 5 Mopar Police Wheels + 5 tires that hold air + 5 Cop Center Caps from a very nice Mopar/AMC guy down in Tiverton, RI today.
They'll work nice to roll the car around on for now, and later I'll sandblast them and paint them up.
I've always liked the Cop Wheels, so I'm happy I found a set.

I also covered the car with a 16x20 tarp temporarily when I was home on Friday night. We had it hanging around anyway and it turns out that the car leaks from everywhere, so I wanted to prevent the leaking.
Soon it'll go into the carport that its next to, I just need to get a good exterior cover for my 2001 Dodge Intrepid.

I'm in law school now and had some personal issues this summer that prevented me from messing around with the car too much, but I am always pondering its restoration.

However, in a moment of inspiration, I decided to go through and calculate the price of the metal I would need (not including shipping...) from Auto Metal Direct. Roughly $5,054! Looks like I'll need to get out of school before I can afford to really fix her up!

Time and money dude, time and money.

I have found a 1969 440 also. my car is a 4 dr. but complete. and a 318 I have left it stock so far. did power tour and drive the wheels off of it! my car has now 75,000 miles give or take and is a dream to drive. best of luck to you. and I think 47713planning is a big part of the fun!

that might seem like a lot of money and it is for alot of us (myself included) but don't let that stop you.If you need to, you can buy a few repair pieces as you get the cash.you have a good running car (that's a plus),wheel-n-deal for other things.I've waited over 20 yrs to start on my roadrunner while raising 5 kids.Everything will come around in your favor.good luck with your schooling. I am still making lists and making plans.
I've been pricing everything from window fuzzies to an AlterKtion.
Once I get out of school (and start actually earning money instead of throwing it into the money vacuum they call college) I'll start restoring it.
My DD is in good shape and won't need much to keep being my DD for a while, so I'll stick with it and spend my money on the Coronet instead of the 2012 Charger SRT8 I have my eye on...

Picked up a replacement quarter panel for the driver's side from a guy who does Mopar Restorations in Taunton, MA last night. He had a 69 Roadrunner Convertible that he was working on, as well as a 1970 Challenger Hemi car, a 1967 Barracuda, a Willys Jeep Pickup that he was converting to a 360 Fuel Injected motor, his own personal 1974 Dodge Ram Extended Cab and 1972 Dart drag car, and a couple of brand X resto cars as well. (Including a beautiful 70 Chevelle, which is a brand X I've always had a weakness for)

At any rate, I'm happy with my deal, $150 for this:

Its been stored in his shop for a few years, so its a little scratched, but other than that its in good shape. Getting to see the cars he was working on/owns was just about worth the money without buying the quarter. :D

I figure since I don't have the time to work on it, I might as well keep buying parts. If I keep getting deals like this, I might not be into it for quite so much $$$$$ when I finally get it done.
