Recently Totaled 72 Roadrunner Clone

My father son project car, which was 90+ % done, was totaled last week. :black_eye: It was unavoidable as the other car went into on coming traffic. Fortunately no one was really hurt other than our feelings. Now it is up to State Farm to determine what the reimbursement will be. I dont think it is worth trying to save her as I think the frame has been bent but I am open to some suggestions as to what to do with the car. Also curious as to what she is worth. Looking for some help or suggestion.

Are you waiting to see what SF is going to give you for it or are you waiting to see what amount they are going to ask for in order for you to buy it back? Either way, I would wait to see what you are either going to get and/or what they are going to ask for it (if they total it) before making any decisions. I don't know what kind of money you have into it and I don't know what kind of insurance you had on it (ex. stated value vs agreed upon value) and in what amount. I don't know what kind of sentimental value the car has to you either. I do know that it is a clone (something to think about when it comes to its value) and I also know that they can do pretty amazing things with a frame straightener. You could buy it back and fix it or you could part it out. We need additional information (ex. $, coverage, sentimental value, etc.) to help you access it.

Sorry to hear about this awful tragedy. Just kind of underscores the dilemma that we all face with regards to these aging treasures; drive them and you stand the chance of losing them - don't drive them and you don't get to realize the total enjoyment that owning them brings... Just a horrible catch-22. Hopefully this will work out and you can rebuild this one or salvage enough parts to start another... Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about that, and hope everyone is ok. See what "they" have to say. "They" may not know the difference between a real runner and a "clone". Also, if you have them you might post some pre-crash pics so we would have a shot at it's value.

I am waiting for SF, the other party's insurance, to come out and see the car this week. Sounds like a wait and see game. The car is a numbers matching all original Satellite Sebring Plus from california. 318 with A/C, bucket seats and consol. I added before and after pics in my gallery.

ya know as much as that sucks.... and it does bad... I would just be thankful that the father-son project didnt end up taking life or limb. Chalk it up as good experience and memories with your son and Perhaps start on another. I hear the 2nd one is usually better because you learned from the first.

Thats a hard hit, If you can find the parts, a good shop can fix that. So don't give up just yet.

ouch. I would buy it back and fix it. You would need front end, including frame rails and k member most likely but it is very fixable. Did the firewall and floor separate? Find a 4door donor and it is only metal.

I do not know what you have in it.But I would not take any less than $10,000.00 for it.
It could be fixed.But I am sure in CA another rustfree Satellite will not be to hard to find.

Just a suggestion. If you never had it appraised before the accident, but you'd been to a few cruise ins, try to find a licensed appraiser who may have seen the car before. Get his opinion of what the car was worth prior to the wreck, back it up with receipts and before accident pictures, then TELL SF what the car was worth. If you wait for their offer, odds are they are going to try to give you scrap price for the car. Another good move would be to hit e-bay and some other classic car sites, have some completed sales printed out, showing what similar cars have been selling for in the last 6 months. Be prepared for them, you'll be better off.

Wow. I've never seen a nose crumple like that before. You must have been hit pretty hard. Glad to hear you're OK.
