Since it's a Friday night I thought I start posting my project here as well. It was a 69 Coronet 500 that I bought as a pro streeter which turned out to be a piece of rusted out sht and so as I started to work on the car one thing led to another and has led me into new territory. Here is a pic of what it looked like when I bought it. This car was a total hack job and my heart just sank as I got further into it.

When I got the car it was already micky mouse back halved so I had to fab up my own frame rails and redo everything. The front frame rails were also rotted out so I ended up doing a complete tube chassis frame with a 14 point cage.

I got a motor plate from a new friend and used it for a pattern to make a new one. the one on the right I used as a pattern and the one on the left I made and has since been cut with angles on the top. The one on the right is smaller and is made of 1/4" thick material, mine I made bigger and out of 3/8" thick material.

I have a Dana 60 and ladder bar with QA1 coil over suspension going in and I had to make all the brackets front and back because I was not going to pay $60 for the front brackets, $60 for the shock mount brackets. The front were not going to work anyway so custom we went. The ladder bars came with brackets but were not 3/16" as stated on the box so custom we went and the upper and lower shock mount brackets well......custom we went.

The fenders were complete shit so I had started doing a frankenstein repair on the passenger side using two complete different fenders. I used the front of another 69 and the back of a 68 and fused them together. The reason for this is because trying to find good fenders is next to impossible and I had been looking a long time. I since have found a good passenger side fender and just recently acquired a driver side fender in awesome shape. I will probably keep the good passenger side fender for my 69 Super bee that is line for a resto.

I am also help a friend restore his 69 Roadrunner 383 4spd post car. He bought the car with the best of intentions but had no tools no shop and absolutely no experience what so ever working on a car. so let the lessons begin. First he had a shop built then he bought a bunch of tools and a rotisserie. He bought the car when the market was high and got taken as I did with my 500 and is in very rough shape buy oh well you know what they say " Life wouldn't be fun with out a challenge ". He did not touch the car for two years because he didn't know where to start and was about to sell the car until I offered to help him as much as I could until it was completed. I just have a couple of phone pics handy at the moment of the car after we put it on the rotisserie.

Yes I am a journeyman carpenter by trade but started working on cars when I was 16 and my first car was a 71 Triumph TR6 -stripped it down to bare metal did the body work and primer took in for a $350 dollar paint job and redid the complete interior. Back then me and the buds were always working on cars but I haven't done anything since I was 24 until a couple years ago and I can honestly say I really missed the work and if I had kept doing it I probably wouldn't have stayed in construction, which is going on 32 years. I started working on a commercial construction site when I was 15. My other hobby is furniture making and refinishing but since I bought the cars I put all the big wood working tools in one corner of the shop and covered them up. My favorite is making 17 century Queen-Anne style furniture and I also worked for a shipyard company working on 10 - 12 million dollar yachts doing millwork fabrication and installation.

I too am a journeyman carpenter and have been doing construction of one form or another for 22 years or so. I design and build furniture as well as restore, but am into mid century modern stuff. Also built auto show exhibits for 7 years, it's all fun to me, but my wood shop has been shrinking as my auto resto shop grows. You do awesome work, keep it up and check out my resto thread on my `68 Road Runner, the "JUNKYARD DOG" when you get a chance.

Awesome work you are doing on your car dematt1

Decided to work on the car today after humming and hoeing until about two o'clock. I have been sick with the flu and coming home after work the last thing on my mind was to go in the shop and work on my shit box.
Got the roof skin off the old frame and then placed on the car for a looksy. This took me 7 1/2 hrs and what a somebitch of a job that was and I still have a bunch of work on it and have to get rid of the rust on the underside. I wanted to just get a new skin but I thought I would try and salvage this one, so far so alright.

I cut the lip off all around and took 1 1/2" off from the front and back. Doing this the 1/4 becomes flimsy so I shaped a piece of round stock 3/16" to match the contours of the 1/4 panel and then welded it in right at the edge. I am using a 33" tall tire and wanted to get the face of the tire 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" from the outside face of the 1/4 panel. I don't like the look of the tire being 4-6 inches in.

Went to a local car show today with my wife and found the color for my car. I was originally going to go with House of kolor tangelo pearl but after seeing a few cars at other shows wearing that color I wasn't sure it was what I wanted so I have been jumping back and forth. With all the work I have been putting in to this car, and still will be, I think it's a huge decision to get the right color. I have been going through color charts and on line pics, going to car shows, taking lots of pics and printing lots of pics and now I have found the right one for me. This shade of orange is being worn by a 31 chevy and I think it is absolutely spectacular.

Got the new 1/4 skin for the drivers side ( pooched the other one and was not happy ) and just did a rough fit until I get the roof skin finished. I want to keep the factory profile around the wheel well so I will probably replace the skin on the passenger side as well but I do have to tinker with the lower sections. I want to get all the sheetmetal finished so I can get started on the body work.

Well I have been working 7 days a week and lots of evenings after work so no time to work on the car but parts are coming in. Got the rad, shroud, fans, starter and got the motor assembled by a friend except for the intake and carbs, still have to pick it up. The timing is right so I started another motor build. Have a siamese hemi mega block coming and a dyers blower, GRP aluminum rods showed up last night and got a smoken deal on set of stage V big valve heads from FHO. The heads have been fully cnc'd and flow 500 plus. Titanium 2.4 intake valves, titanium 1.9 exhaust valves, light weight titanium retainers, Nextec polished valve springs and some high dollar locking lash cap system ( will get more on this ). The heads were used for one dyno session by FHO for testing new rockers they developed and according to Tim Banning they look brand new. Also Tim will be helping and guiding me with the build so. The blower is an 8-71 Dyers and I will change up to a 14-71 due to the amount of cubes. This build will be a 588" and with the 14-71 I can run lower rpm to reach my goal of 1200-1500 HP and after that we can play with pully sizes and see what happens.

Well I haven't posted in a while, have been busy working and have not had a chance to work on the car but I have been buying lots of parts. I got my rad and fans here and the fiberglass bumpers ( not sure if I will use the bumpers ). I had a good talk with Bill from RMS regarding the Alterkation unit and he told me the unit was actually designed for my type of application and morphed into stock application. I have been looking at all possible avenues and after talking with Bill I decided to order one and it will be ready to ship in about three weeks. Bill makes mounts for the upper control arm that I can weld to the frame rails and by using the same shorter mounts for both the front and rear of the control arm it brings the control arm more level and actually gives the suspension better geometry. The complete Wilwood disc brake kit is coming with it as well ( 11" slotted and drilled rotors, 4 piston calipers ). I have also been buying parts for the new 588" blown Hemi which I am going to have the machining, assembly and dyno done by Performance Only in Florida. I have also changed my mind on the color and have had this option on the back burner before I decided on the last color. This has been the hardest part of the whole project. What do you think of my choice.

The brackets are what he makes but they just aren't to my liking along with a couple small things, over all I like this unit but it cost me a bundle due to the exchange, shipping and taxes bringing it across the border. The kit also includes the Willwood disc brake kit with slotted and drilled rotors. The price of hot rodding man and when you are out shit beating on the fords and chevys who really gives a shit about a few extra grand.
