I have noticed things are a little slow here compared to FABO. Maybe we should all mention this site when we visit other Mopar sites and leave a link. What do yawl think?

Slower? Perhaps. But definitely calmer and less adversarial. Kind of like the difference between small, country town and a big city.

Dare, it's not a bad idea. It will pick up eventually. I am sure FABO was not bustling within its first 6 months of existence. I have mentioned the site to several local b-body owners and am waiting to see if they join up.

Actually I'm glad there are those who really dig /6 4 door cars etc. I have 2 (originally) /6 A bodies, and 2 BB B bodies. So I guess I'm in a position to badmouth A's, B',s C's, E's, and F's. I've owned them all. I even had a Conquest......whatever body nomenclature that would be.

If you remember Chrysler was the first of the big 3 that needed a bailout to get rid of their old ways....IE the junk they were pedaling on the general public....Remember Lee.......:yes:

Then the Fords and Gms of the 75-80s-early 90s set the quality level bar so low you needed a ground hog to get under it...:yes:

It never fails to amaze me that people will spend thousands of dollars to recreate a car back to "factory specs" that had numerous problems BRAND NEW.. :edgy:

I restored my Challenger stock (even with the Prestolite) and had no problems with it. Last three years I owned my 69 Bee I never put a wrench to it. Didn't need to.

So why WOULDN'T I want to put one back the way it came. Maybe the problem is YOU can't put one back and have it be a reliable car. Kinda like a guy here who has been racing all his life and refused to believe my Challenger could run as fast as it did STOCK. At least he didn't believe it till he saw the recap in the magazines.

So the issue wasn't "I" couldn't go that fast with my Challenger "stock". The issue was "HE" couldn't go that fast with a "stock" car.

I am never pissed off just realize that the cars were buckets of bolts off the assembly line.. They were all mid level production cars at best. They were far from being a premium cars. I at least admit it...

My Plymouth was put back together to SFI 7.5 second specs. and is certified.

I build my own engines and transmissions and don't use any MOPAR drive train parts.....NONE nada zip...Wanna see if YOU can keep up with it, just post a BIG pile of Clevelands and YOU can TRY....:grin:

OHD is dead on about one thing for certain, the cars were assembled by workers that seem to not really care so much. I know a many Orignail owners of there cars and they almost all say the quality control back in the day was nearly zero. Some cases, just down right unbelieveable.

To long bolts in the intakes with stacks off washers, Ignitions that never worked right, very unbalanced engines, second rate tires slapped on and unbalanced, missing parts.

O have has some trouble with new OE parts, but once they checked out, there fine and long lasting.

I never said they were perfect cars when new. I didn't even say the body panels fit well when new.

I think I should say I'm glad you guys are here.

I just helped a buddy build a 383 SBC stroker that went into an '88 IRCO this past summer. We reused the 5.0 TPI but with larger injectors/throttle body and had a new chip made to work with the 383 and its fairly rowdy camshaft. I'm no pro when it comes to these things but do have some obviously recent experience, which included tracking down all of the needed info on the web. Let me know if I can be of assistance.

I pulled the seats out of the A12 on Saturday...looking for a broadcast sheet...no luck...holding out hope for the top of the glovebox...or any place else for that matter...LOL! I'd like to go ahead and get the new seat covers put on while they're out but the CFO is fighting me...afraid I'll somehow trash the seats before I get the rest of it done...stay tuned...

Here's a piece of information for ya. The gauges in 87-88 Mark VII, Tbird/Cougar, and (probably) Mustang will read incorrectly with age. This manifests itself when the headlights are turned on. The problem is caused by a bad ground to the IP and is fixed simply by regrounding the #15 wire (orange).

But back to the starter. I'm guessing that the starter you have is like millions of other GM starters, and the part where the mounting bolts go through is aluminum and it warps. So during the rebuild that piece is removed and the mounting surface is milled back flat. This in turn "raises" the starter bendix relative to the flywheel, which in turn makes it squeel like a bunch of cats trapped in cages while being run over by a steamroller.

Thus, the need for shims.
