Sublime or Plum Crazy on the Bee?

This is kind of a dumb question but I've been thinking about it for months and I could flip a coin.

I have a '70 Bee I'm stripping to bare metal and fixing a few dings on to get ready for paint. it's an original dark burnt orange car with a burnt orange interior, not a gross color scheme but since it's not a numbers matching car anyway I want something a little more flashy. I'm putting an all new Legendary interior in and the rest can by dyed so I am thinking plum crazy with a white interior and white stripes, or black interior I don't care. or sublime with a black interior black stripes and maybe a black vinyl top.

Both would look great but what would you do?

Purple and white are kind of common if you ask me. Seems I see more of those than orange/orange cars. Why not do an update and still retain a bit of original "lean" and paint it the current Go Man Go orange with the orange interior?

My 71 RR is Sublime with black interior and black accents.
I like the combo alot.

No offense my least favorite is sublime followed very close by plum :edgy: but its your car. Check out the orange car in the post below this one :yes: Yellow is my favorite color but not very popular. I have a brand c car I used to take to shows and heard people say " very nice car but don't like the color" Probably the rarest color on a muscle car tho :rolling:

Don't listen to this guy he as a 68 Satellite for Pete sakes! I prefer the purple, but Sublime seems to get a bit more attention? Plum Crazy is the # 1 color for Bee's in 70 and Sublime production is about half! Burnt orange doesn't pop the way the high impact colors do, but it still looks way cool!

If it's not # matching i would go with a newer or current color. if i had to pick between those two colors i would go with sublime plum crazy purple does nothing for me, just my opinion.

Interesting, not a real clear preference across the board. I think the plum is a real pretty color, I love it on an E body but I'll have to say on a B body it just isn't a knock out. Sublime is an ugly color, but it makes a great looking car.

I just couldn't ever paint a non original color on a classic even if I hated them all.

I agree for the most part! Plum Crazy is the most common color that people tend to use when they change from original. There is a reason for this? Everyone loves it except the two guys on this board:) i remembered the smiley!

I say Burnt orange. I like the different.

Burnt Orange. TOO MANY BEES REPAINTED PLUM CRAZY THAT WERE ORIGINALLY SOME OTHER COLOR. Kinda funny when I think about it, as everybody was painting the purple cars some other color back in the seventies and early eighties...

Igotta say Burnt Orange. It's a really pretty color when new plus nowhere near as common as Plum Crazy. Don't get me wrong though, I love Plum Crazy - just look at the car in my avatar :)

I actually have a 70 Challenger I'm planning on redoing that is factory Sublime. Would really like to paint black,it won't be sublime again :no:

If you want an impact colour, Mopar in origin, have a look at the 08 Viper Snakeskin colour...wow...I sprayed the colour last year...amazing. Nothing else like it.

nothing wrong with FM3 but thats a lot of pink on a B body.

Yeah....I know. There was a 70 GTX (I think it is) that is FM3. It was in Colorado for some time. I think it was "related" to an FM3 70 Cuda a friend used to own. (like maybe the two cars were owned by the same person at one point) I believe both cars are restored now.

I guess if you're gay you can go with FM3 and let everyone know:grin:

Plum cracy is a cool color that I'm sure was ordered new by both men and woman. I can't imagine any guy ordering FM3 new? I know it's cool now, but I'd have to believe that it was like getting a Modtop car!

You are probably right. I cant see a guy ordering a pink car new either. At least not in the 70s.

At least that Bee is the right color. FM3 is kinda like FC7, and painters get the color wrong.

The problem is the cars are 40 years old now. Hard to tell what shade was correct. Also with there being no lead in paint now some pigments aren't correct anymore.

Also some new cars have 5 or 6 variations of the same color. Im sure there were a few variations of them back then. Someone adds a bit to much pigment to the barrel, they arent going to toss 55 gallons of paint cause the color a bit off. If it wasnt stirred the same the color could be off, Different air pressure ext.. You get the idea.

Before I bought my 66 Coronet back in 1989, I had a 1970 Charger R/T that was the FK5 Burnt Orange with a black vinyl top and a white interior. All of my "finished restored pictures" of the body and interior were lost in a move years ago, but here's a some before, during and after pictures of the car before the body restoration was completed and after LOTS of work was done to the engine and engine compartment, the chassis and the interior. The FK5 is an AWESOME color for ANY 68 and up B-Body car in my humble opinion, as it's a VERY deep and rich looking color! :yes::grin:

Non factory FC7 cars don't go over very well at Mopar shows (kinda like Rallye Wheels on pre-70 A-Bodies). However, on the street and at shows/cruises the purple is a hit. Your car, your call.

I'm an FK5 kinda guy myself. I would only paint a car purple if FC7 was on the tag. Just my $0.02

If it has to be something other than the orig. color I would go with Plum crazy. Personaly if it was my car I would keep the stock color combo, It's cool and differant... but that's me.

I vote neither and I like plum the best on a 70 Bee. But the purist in me says burnt orange is too sweet of a color to change. Maybe gold, tan or one of the other greens.
My BO Bee went to Australia. I picked it up from the original owner's brother who had just done a nut & bolt on it. It had the unique selt belt upgrade & N96 with a broadcast sheet. One of the few cars I regret selling.

I say keep the burnt orange paint since it isnt very common and spice it up a little with a black interior.

keep the orange, seems there are lots of plum and sublime cars out there already. don't get me wrong, they look great, but the orange is classy and subtle. or, for a little more pop, i'm kinda partial to mm1 turbine bronze. its like burnt orange with a kick-check it out. :yes:
