65 Satellite - Advice on Trim

Can someone verify the correct direction for the 7 "gills" at the rear of the quarters on my 65 Satellite? My friend says they're supposed to have the black inset facing toward the front of the car (as if they're gathering air) and I installed them with the chrome bulge toward the front and the black inlay to the back (as a punched louvre would be on one's hood).
