well, i've got the beast mini tubed & now i'm getting ready to move the rear springs with a spring relocating kit (ebay, $89.00 shipped) & i'm going to cut housing down 3.5" on each side. anyone have any advice on either?

also, my buddy has a 489 housing with 4.10 gears on a Moser 35 spline spool i can get for $450.00. where can i get a set of affordable 35 spline axles? he says he can get me a set for around $200 bucks, but everything i see is around $400 for a pair. he's going to use his 35 spline axles in a dana he's having set up.

Yukon sells chromoley axles for around 2 bills...Have a local 4x4 shop cut the axles if you don,t want to do it yourself...It,s auctually pretty easy..Things like this I let the pros do it...I,m lucky that there are a dozen or so shops near my house..This is also the time for you to do your rear disc brakes...Going through all this hassle on a 8 3/4?I,d go ahead and do it to a dana 60...Just my two cents..

are you talking about axles that are splined about half way, then you cut them down to the size needed? it looks like that would make the axle weak?

Save your money find a dana, get the housing set to the width you want. Then get a new set of housing ends. keep your drum brakes, order a set of axels from strange they are more but are worth it. when you install new housing ends make sure they are done by a pro. If you do not have good penetration you will ruin the housing in a flash.

I would stay away from that 8 3/4 spool set up. You could get a truck dana 60, put new ends on it and use the same brakes you have ,or go with a rear disk brake kit.
I myself, would go with the thicker dana 60 axles....
