The back top of my console is cracked. It is the spot where people press on to get out. Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this?

I will re-inforce underneath to add strength, but what do I use to fill in the crack before repainting the console?

What type of paint and what exact color is the console supposed to be?

If it's a clean break you can push the pieces together and adjust until you don't see the crack and use a solvent that will capillary into the joint from the back side. You want the solvent to react with the plastic to melt it together. I recently glued some acrylic to ABS using MoPar brake cleaner. After it is secure you can add some material to back up the crack then glue it in place. Adding a vertical post between the floor and the back part of the console might be a good way to support it and keep it from cracking. I don't recall consoles being painted from the factory. They were molded in the interior color.

It is a small crack. The pieces are all still there and in place.
Can you recommend any type of plastic repair?
I like that idea about the vertical support.

Weren't they painted semi-gloss black?

The right way to fix it is with a plastic welder...You can get one fairly cheap on ebay...It,s just like a heat gun...They work pretty well..Most center consoles were black in color,or even the color of the interior of your car..You can get a replacement for about 225 bucks...

I'm sure there are some epoxies available that will work fine, but the professional plastic shop I saw used a solvent type glue. Using the solvent will allow you to line everything up perfectly when dry then allow the solvent to capillary into the gap to seal the joint. A plastic welder from the back side will work too but if you can get away with a couple of bucks worth of glue then why not do that? After the crack is closed then build up the area with more plastic or even aluminum plate. For the build up you might want to use epoxy but make sure you sand the area where you apply the epoxy. I mean really tear it up to give it some tooth. Then add a vertical support if you want. Do you have a TAP Plastic store in your area?

There is a 2 part plastic epoxy that you can buy at just about any hardware store that you can try. You can glue some reinforcing material from the backside. I used some on my car and it worked like a charm. The product I am talking about comes with a couple of static mixing tips.

No. I don't remember the brand but it was someone like Durabond or one of the other big brand names. You shouldn't have to look too hard to find it.

can anyone confirm if the top pieces on a 67-68 console are painted with the argent color, or are they completely chrome?
