rp23g7 02-03-2011, 07:11 PM So, everyone has talked about a Daytona in Lynnwood Wa, sititng outside. Bob Kropp i guess has talked to the guy and looked at the car, and said its a basketcase now. I had never seen it, so i went to find it today, so sad how someone can let a car get that bad, especially a winged car these days

basically, it already is scrap...and to clarify..it has not been sitting there at that house for 25 years...but it has been in the Seattle area in the same condition....I saw it when it was in central Seattle way back when....was basically junk then
dangina 02-04-2011, 04:18 PM its always the "fixing it in the future story" even if they are 74...:pain10:
Donny 02-04-2011, 04:26 PM These pics don't show anything. Actually, the winged car looks good, from my gatherin' it looks like a Daytona from the wing angle and height? Plus a driveway full of GM cars ain't really a good sign either!

res1vw21 03-26-2011, 10:16 AM every time I have talked to him he has been very admit it's not for sale......
BuckNeccid 03-27-2011, 03:56 AM When I got back to this area from the service in '78, I started hearing stories of an all original, low mile 70 Superbird that a guy had wrecked back in '70, crushed the nose, and just parked it. The story never changed, it was just that no one ever knew where the car was. I looked for years till one day in '85 at a junk yard a guy I was talking to said "Yea, I know where it is" and asked if I wanted to see it.
When we got there, I saw a lime green wing sticking up out of a pile of briars. I had spent 8 years in Infantry or related MOS's, and it STILL was almost impossible to get to the VIN. U code car, still looked original from what I could see past all the household trash bags piled inside it, and when I looked thru the hood rust holes, underhood looked all complete. You couldn't open the hood due to the vines, but the holes were at least football size. Vines were even growning THRU the quarters.
The owner wasn't home, so I didn't get a chance to talk to him, but I could see then that at most, you MAY save the numbers off the car, and some parts.
Finally, about 1991, I talked to a guy who had purchased the car for $10K, with the intentions of restoring it (yea, right...). Car was never again seen or heard from in this area, and has slowly passed from the bench racing talk, except for a few of us old guys.

To all: The guy has the right to have a dream! Just because he does not maybe have as much money as the next person does not mean he can not have the car you may want. That does not make him a Jerk?! If you guys really don't want to see the car go to waist, set up a donation fund to help him complete the car and be happy for him.

burntorange70 03-31-2011, 10:50 AM Dang! If I was that guy I would sell it just to get rid of all the peckerheads hiding in the bushes taking pics of my place and spying on me. LOL

OK, I'd most likely do the same, you got me. :) lol
And yeah, I do have dyslexia, so you'll see me screw up more
words to come. :D Now that you pointed it out , it does look funny!
racedodge 04-05-2011, 11:55 PM um.. that is not dyslexia.. but a more common disorder known as:

No, trust me it's due to dyslexia. The mixing of letters, trying to see the word
I'm looking for. I know the difference of meanings of words, just can not see
the words in spelling. I know because I've had this problem all my life. I have
an IQ of over 150, so I'm not stupid! Read up and you'll see that some of the
smartest have this disorder.
67 B-body 04-08-2011, 09:44 PM I must have dislexia too. I use the wrong form of a word all the time...All this time I thought I didn't pay close enough attention in English class... lol

you just created a heterograph, where they sound the same but are spelled differently. Though it may fall under your concept of dyslexia, that is as common as someone typing "their" instead of "there" or "flour" instead of "flower".
Your "IQ" was never in question, so I am unsure why you felt you had to display such a lofty score, unless of course you are a member of MENSA (http://www.mensa.org/).... but anyway, back onto topic.

Just wondered what the story was on this car. Did somebody make a stock car out of a legit Bird?! OMG how much "corn liquor" do you have to consume to do such a thing!!! Don't have a facebook login. Really.

CtownChris 07-20-2011, 05:57 AM Ron, I remember the article that this picture is from. Never forgot it.
This pic might have also been an add of some type but the same pic was in the pages
of Hot Rod I think it was with the article and other pics including under the hood.
I think Willie had a dual snorkel set up on this car.
I can remember this stuff and rock band trivia but not what color my wife likes best. LOL
darkhorse 07-20-2011, 06:33 AM I was at the Spring Fling this year. That guy is definitely a talker. But what was more interesting was his tow vehicle/rv thing. I kick myself for not bringing a camera to a car show that thing was classic. So was the owner.
Ron 73 07-20-2011, 09:34 AM Yes i believe that particular picture is from a add. He, the last i knew is still around but i don't know if he does as much as before to be honest. His wife for anyone who doesn't know was Tomiko 3rd from the left i believe. She drove one also. I cant remember where i even put my wife let alone her favorite color. Big Willie and his wife Tomiko organized the 'Brotherhood of Street Racers' to try to put a stop to the street gangs and drugs. Good Chrysler played a part in it with the cars... Maybe the Mod could tell more of how many cars Chrysler used with Willy, i have no idea myself it just gos to show that Mopars play a role in so many things.
1ol74charger4me 07-21-2011, 01:14 AM I was watching a episode of Adam12 on Hulu that was called drag racing and I swear that it is his Daytona in the background of one of the scenes. Cool episode with Mopars.

Yea that is too bad.Just sittin and rustin.
true story in about 1977 at channel 2 in houston texas parked in back was a superbird ,rear window removed & what looked like a dog house built outward from window out to the end of trunk, top of wing cut to clear dog house & 220 volt ac unit hanging off the back i often wonder about that car,
dave5237 07-30-2011, 05:21 AM I agree with the most of you. Restore it or get rid of it. It took me 9 yrs to restore my 1968 gtx and about 35k ( he probably knows it will cost him a fortune to restore) but its almost done and i remember a car restorer saying the same thing to me. Do the car up right or sell it to someone who will.... I did it up right!
65 CUDA 07-30-2011, 11:53 AM i hate people that say their classics are not for sale or the same going to restore it someday routine. there is 2 dodge chargers not to far from me just going to waste. i talked to the owners and that is what they told me. 1 of the chargers is a 68' and the other is a 69' they are in need of a mopar freak like me to get them and redo them.

I know exactly which car you're talking about. One of the DC.com members, xs29j8Bullitt, posted these pics & explained the story.
"The owner was a quadrapeligic who really loved Superbirds. The center section of the rear bumper was hinged to pivot down and a ramp used to allow the owner access... note the viewing windows. At the time most just considered them funky old cars."

Yeah he has a right to dream, but to let it sit out and rot is inexcusable. It really ticks me off:angryfire: when people have a car that they dont know anything about much less have the money or talent to restore and hang onto it fostering a false sense of ability. If you love the damn thing so much how about putting inside your garage instead of a bunch of other crap in the garage since your a friggin hoarder. Thats the reason most people cant let it go. Time to let it go to home where it will be properly preserved and respect and enjoyed.
CopperBird 10-27-2011, 02:30 PM I agree with what most everyone on here is sayin, but I also had something like this put into a different perspective for me one time.
I have a buddy whose whole family were a bunch of Ford freaks, and his father loved to restore old 57-59 Fairlanes. Retractables, Convertibles, Hardtops, whatever....... Once in my youth we were all sitting around watching an Andrew Dice Clay movie called Ford Fairlane and a scene came on where they blew one up! My buddy and I turned around to see the the look on his old mans face, thinking he might have a heart attack!!! Instead, he was SMILING!!!!! We said "Why are you smiling? I thought you loved Fairlanes?" to which his reply was "Well, there may be one less on the road, but that means when I go to get rid of mine it'll be worth that much more"........
Not sure if thats a good way to look at it or not, but it kinda cracked me up!
On the other hand...... There weren't very many of those Wing cars ever built, so maybe that guy should just be taken out back and :tied up:
Then get somebody with some deep pockets to "Make him an offer he can't refuse"~ The GodFather. :glasses7:
i saw this & just had to :toothy10:
