Richmond Gear 6-Speed ROD Transmissions

Hello guys,

I am Jos from The Netherlands
I have a Coronet 440 from 69 and build it like prostreet
I mean low on the ground big wheels and a big motor, not blown
I know many of you are not agree with my choice but i have the car and want it like prostreet
My question is
Have anyone here in this forum the knowledge of a richmond 6 gear trans
what do i need more in combination with my 440 bigblock
what must i rebuild the the floor of my coronet
Does anybody know somethink more about this, please send me a notice so i can go futher on with my project

Welcome from the good ole US of A! Wish I could help you out, but I've never dealt with a Richmond. However, I'm sure there will be someone on here who can give you some assistance.

Okay,
it can be done but it is a PAIN IN THE ASS.
The GREEN car 1970 Super Bee on out website features the Richmond 6psd.
What you need is the 18 spline version of the trans WITH the HEAVY DUTY .80 overdrive otherwise you will break the trans overdrive with the power of that engine.
Second, you will need a Lakewood scatershield, and drill an additional hole as one of corner bolts will not line up, then weld a nut to the scatershield.
Third, the shifter goes directly through the torsion bar cross member. NOT GOOD, you have to completely build a custom cross member, as well as a custom transmission mount, as well as a large bulge in the floor.
Forth, the Speedocable, comes out on the wrong side and is a bear to get it to work right.
Fifth, the shifter is way far back from the original location, you will need a custom console shifter, or the shifter looks stupid coming out way to far back.
Fifth, the yoke, these transmission use a GM yoke, so you will need to get it, and have a custom driveshaft and conversion u joint made.
Finally,
I would recommend FROM EXPERIENCE, to sell the Richmond if you already bought, and Buy a VINTAGE MOPAR 5SPD conversion. We are a dealer of these kits and have installed many of them. They are a EASY install and include all the parts, so no headaches

I am pleased that i speak to someone that has it don already, i know the green coronet its a example for me

first: It is good that you tell me about the 18 spline version
second: this is not a problem at al but very good to know thanks about this too
third: i must remake the cross member anyway because I am not riding with torsion, I have a company that makes custom airride (xcars.nl)
Forth: speedocable can be done i think
Fifth: i have seen i an artikle that a company make these custom cheatmetal for a B-body is that correct?
sixd: this is just a modification that is doable

It is hard to get me off the idea of the 6 speed trans because i am someone that wants something different then other mopar drivers
I know that there are a few 6 speed drivers and i must be one of them
And it must be underneeth a protourer i think

I was wondering if it has to be the Richmond? Keisler is offering a six speed unit that works exceptionally well and doesn't need near the mods or butchery that the Richmond does.

i tried speaking with rich mond my self, they offered no information on weather it fit the floor or any body style,,they only offered the same info on the one trans bolt mounting hole not lineing up,,,

I didn't know that Keisler have a six gear too, this is new for me
Do you know if the ration is a little bit the same
or can you give me a adress from Keisler?

keisler makes no transmissions,,,they just put packages together that are made to fit your car,,i have heard of no one that just bolted in a kit,, they all require some modification some where along the line,,,

the manual transmissions keislier.and classic 5 speed and a few others are selling as packages are made by TREMEC,, the model is the tremec TKO,,,

there is the TKO 500 AND 600 they are five speeds

then tremec makes the T56 which is used in the last generation camero and fire birds,,, which is a 6 speed

tremec also makes the trannys being used in the mustang shelbys,,

then there are the T56 viper spec used in the viper,,,dodge challengers and corvettes,,,

you can buy the tremec tranny from a number of vendors,,look at summit,,,
and put the package together your self if you do your home work,,,

keislier may not want to get in to the 6 speed box,,i believe its bigger in size ,and will require you to do all the mods your self,,,but it cant hurt to call them and tell them your intrested in a 6 speed manual,,,

You are correct on your comment that the transmissions come from Tremec. But to say that Keisler just packages them with a "kit" would be incorrect and an underestimate of what goes into this type of installation. I have had the folks from both Keisler and Tremec down to my shop and will vouch for the quality of both the product and the people. The folks at Tremec build a darn good unit. Keisler, doesn't manufacture the transmissions but they do mods to them that makes the units compatible with the vehicle. Sure, you could buy a Tremec from Summit, but you will basically have to figure everything else out. Including moving the shifter box to come up in the right location. Some folks get off on that type of thing. But my time compared to what they charge for their "kit" is worth more to me. And Keisler/Tremec offer a couple of diffeent 6 speed trannys. I have already put one in. I will agree with you on having to do some surgery to the tunnel.

I have a Keisler kit using the Tremec TKO 5-speed. I just checked his website and that of American Powertrain, another vendor who has a good product. Neither seems to offer a complete bolt-in kit using the 6-speed, just the 5-spd, for Mopars. They might be able to do a custom T56 kit for you - you'll have to contact them and find out.

al that may be true,,for the E BODY cars,but i have read numerous treads on problems with there kits as far as vibrations from incorrect tail shaft and drive shaft angels,,including ones they installed,,,hopefuly they have sorted there products out,,,but the A body guys,,and early A body guys are left hanging,,,they say there kits fit,,but they need a ton of work after you get the complete kit,,,i was just saying if your capable you can do it all on your own,save a ton of money and aggeration,,,if it was a chevy it would be a bolt in deal,,, i have researched it to death,,and i am now collecting parts as i go,, to do it al on my own,

The TKO stock will not fit into any Mopars. The A B and E cars have different shift positions. In all of the TKO Kits we make provisions for the torsion bar crossmember. In the early days to clear up you misconceptions The issue with driveline angle issue's had to do more with the fact guys were not using the provided spacers for the trans. In order to get it high enough to get them aligned.


We also don't leave the Abody guys hanging. The kit is complete there is tunnel work, not a ton of work needed. We supply template and sheetmetal.
The trans is modified to clear torsion bar and the kit does work. It one of our best selling Mopar kits.

The New T56 Magnum trans and fitment into Mopar is still not clear. We will have to do some work once the trans come in.
