Hi,

which kind of the American Racing Wheels were on the 63/64/65 models for drag racing?
Torq Thrust D or II?

Got to be the original Torque Thrusts...the Torque Thrust D's were later introduced to clear disc brakes which those particular years of cars did not have... Certainly was not the II's which came MUCH later...

Steve, is that because of the darker colored centers?

Flo, you want 15" of those in front, 4,5" wide. Got to be D's...paint them bronze for a more sinister look :-)

Thanks, it's not mine...it's Mosher's. Mine is Viper Red.
Saw this car in real life by the way. It used to be a /6 car but it now carries the old powerplant of this car (also a nice wheelstand):

I plan to replace my front wheels with the vintage looking Torque Thrust myself. I will keep the steelies in the back as I like the old Superstock look. Ron

Hey guys;isn't there a Torq-Thrust "M"(originals?) that has slightly wider spokes? Saw a listing on Summit's site;that wheel looked closer to what I've seen on the '64-5 cars.

Get the narrow ones from E-T Wheels with as cast spokes and satin rim 400$ a piece but they are the correct 4in width with the zero offest just like the original magnezium Americans. And they are near perfect copies of the old Americans.

People painted the spokes in many colors back in the day. I remember that most people painted them a charcoal color but it depended on the color of the car that made a difference in what looked best.

There's no cool like old school, go with the Ds. I bought a set for my 64 Polara but they ended up on my 75 Cordoba for now. I love the look.

I've gone back and forth on that. At first I thought none of them ran them back in the day, but then I saw pics of some with them. So I can't decide. For now I have the caps on mine. But these new rims aren't quite correct anyway. The ones back in the day didn't have the arc in the spokes that they have now (for disc brake clearance) - the spokes were straight. I like the look either way. :)

I don't run mine. I've seen pictures with both options but more without them. Kinda makes sence not to run them if you think about how much they had to remove the caps during races...I'd move 'm to the bin if I had to put them back every time...Just a thought ofcourse.

Also, i think it looks more robust without them...

One thing that has me thinking of leaving them off is you can't get a socket on the lugnuts with them on - that's a pain. Maybe I will take them off for awhile. Gotta get some decent looking dust caps if I do.

But I've got a Set of these Indy Drag Mags, for my early.
Is anybody knowing, which center Caps will fit on them???
