Wow.another 63' 4 door receiving the royal treatment. Looks like a heck of an undertaking. Always wanted to see how this was done....Keep up the good work and keep the pic's a rolling.

Oh man! AWESOME!!!!

You're modifying the 4 dr posts to accept the 2 dr doors right?
Please get good pics of how you're going about that as I figure I'll be doing the same or close to that in the future.
All the details of 2 dr conversions need to be documented and your version looks really cost effective for someone on a budget, as it only involves the buying and shipping of the doors themselves.
What a savings that would mean to anyone off the beaten path!

Keep up the great work! ;):D

Interesting. Have not seen the rear doors used for the rear panel before. Most of the conversions i have seen or read about utilize the panel section from the 2 door donor car.

Oh man...awesome!
It's a real jigsaw puzzle but your gonna pull it off for sure.

I see now that you did actually use the 2 dr post sections!
I missed that completely...wishful thinking on my part as I hoped you were doing my homework for me! Hahaha
Still...with what your posting already my (and others) future job is sure to be easier.

Thanks for posting all the detailed pics! :D

My question is do they still make the 2 door rear side glass or do you have to find/use old 2 door glass and does the four door crank/lift mechanism also work from the four door???

poly1963

Do you have the 2 dr quarter window frames or will you be using cut down 4 dr ones?
I'm wondering how they will attach to the roof and C pillar...especially the 4 dr ones as those usually seal with the door weatherstrip.

Making plans for my own conversion!!! :D:D

I have a 64 dodge 440 4 door that is really solid and a 64 dodge 440 that is pretty ruff. I planned on using the 4 door car to build the 2 door, but some people have said I would be better off converting the 4 door car to a 2 door with the 2 door car being the parts car. Which do you think would be easier? I can either cut out the floor, trunk and cowl out of the 4 door. or cut out the doors, and 1/4's out of the 2 door. Nice looking 67 cougar you have there by the way.

Now that seems like it might be a great idea!
Never have to worry about it rusting again or leaking at a spot weld or something.
With the front panel welded on and the top left off you could spray the whole area to make it into kind of a plastic trough...
I'm actually at the point where I could do that myself too! :headbang:

Your blast cabnet idea is killer. Keep in mind that some metal dusts explode. With the lights you have I suggest putting something around the lights to keep the dust drom coming in contact with the electrical. You don't want to have an explosion in your cabnet.

Your car is coming along great.

I'm speechless! Don't know whether to congratulate you or condemn you! LOL! I admire your determination! I was looking for an idea, or goal where you are going with this car, pardon me if I missed it; just what are you making?

The blast cabinet you made has me laughing, not at you, but the determination to build it to fit in with your plans -- sounds terribly familiar! Let me tell you that you may be wasting your $$ and time on that one, perhaps a small cheapo HF sand blaster would be better suited, you look like you can get away with sand blasting there off to the side of your work area, the wooden cabinet you will tear up in no time -- ever see what sand (I am assuming you're using sand) does to wood? There's deals out there for blast cabinets, I scored this one for 500 bucks, redid a few parts, made it prettier, media blasted it, I have a dust collector so using it for this cabinet is working.

I'm following this thread intently!

Been following your progress and I really admire what you're doing. Lots of craftsmanship and ingenuity. I like the blast cabinet too. Very similar to the one I built many years ago. It has served me well through lots of projects. I made mine from the high density particle board. If you are using sand, make sure the dust collector is doing the job because the free silica from sand blasting can cause a lung disease called silicosis. I switched from sand to ground glass which has no free silica and is much healthier to use. It's as effective as sand and it was cheap. I only paid $5.50/50 lb. bag from a local company that makes the stuff from old bottles. Here's my cabinet
