Not happy with Year One inc.

Im restoring a 69 Bee, bought new rear rails from year one. So I had everything ready to install the driver side rail, put it into place and saw this. New rail is around 3/8 in. shorter (top to bottom) than the original! Has anyone ever used these rails and had the same problem? Or did I get a bad one? WTF! Not happy...

Never thought about that. The passenger side I only replaced the back half of the rail, that side matched up fine. Even though the driver side doesn't fit quite right, I think I can make it work. But I will be sending this photo to Year One

I wouldn't install it If it's not correct tell them to replace it with the correct part. But that's your decision It will haunt you afterwards that you didn't!That would be ok for a driver type but not for a restored Super Bee.

Try AMD Auto Metal Direct ... much better stuff and much better prices ... Year One is wayyyyy over rated

I'm not sure that I would ever buy a repopped frame rail. I see good oem ones way to often between this sight and Craigslist.

Thats where Y-1 got it. AMD is the only one making this rail. Chances are another one will have the same problem.

I'm thinking these rails have been repopped before AMD came around, don't forget Goodmark and Shermans. In fact the rail in the picture doesn't look like an AMD piece.
My .02 and I could be mistaken, but....

Your right I forgot that Goodmark started making these. AMD was the first to make them from what I understand. I sell original Southwestern sheet metal and 5 years ago no one was making these.
Funny how AMD's biggest dist won't use any of his repo metal on any of his own cars.

I assumed rotted frame rail = new frame rail, never knew I could find oem's. This is my first major resto, learning as I go. I did check AMD for rails when I was ready to buy, but they only sold partial rails. Everything else I bought came from AMD, basically everything on the rear is new, except quarters and tail panel. All their parts fit so far, still have more parts to put on.

I'd have to agree, I deal with AMD on a nearly daily basis, in fact my bosses 1970 Motion Buick GSX ( one of one ) is on display there. We have also supplied them with NOS pieces so they could re-pop parts for the Skylark/GS/GSX family... long story short if this is in fact an AMD part, they will make it right !

AMD sells the full frame rail and I only needed the back half. Thats why I got them from Year One. Wish AMD sold the back half, I probably would not have had this problem. Everything else I needed came from AMD. So far all those pieces fit good, but I still have parts to put together, so we will see.
detmatt1- I assumed rotted frame rail= new frame rail. This is my first major restoration, lesson learned. Next time (if there is one) I will be looking for more oem stuff.

Totally ecstatic with the new metal I got from AMD. (see photo bucket link on signature)

My cousin, who is very picky, was even impressed with the quality. When he did his Yenko (clone) a number of years ago, he bought a repo fender from Year one, and spent more time getting it straght then if he would have just reworked the old fender.

Glad Year-one is in business, and hope they stay that way, but lordie, the price they want for their stuff is enough for a guy to give up on a project. Only makes other vendors like AMD look even better when they supply a good product for a reasonable amount.

I'm pretty sure someone from Year one will chime in and say give us their .02 cents. why their prices are the way they are.

Haven't needed any frame parts but all of the body panels I've received from AMD has been excellent! Year One stuff on the other hand I've always had to fight with. Sounds like I'm not the only one. Good Luck!!

In the 80's I was impressed with year 1 parts and delivery. I could order on monday and have qtr panels on thursday. I bought a new 6 pak setup and all 3 carbs needed work....I use them when needed....last resort...good luck with the part and car

Call Year 1 and they will make it right. Had 1 problem with a headliner and they refunded without me having to return. Bought lots of parts ( wait for the 20% offers) and have been impressed. Good company

i agree.thats why yearone is so expensive. they have a 100% return policy and they even pick it up for you on their dime.
i havent bought anything from them in 10+ years. i find where they buy it from and cut out the middleman. theres only a few items yearone has a exclusive on.

Sorry you got a poor quality part.

I like their return policy with no time limit, no BS restocking fees, and if you order when they have their 30% off sales, it takes the bite out of their premium prices. Also, if you want OEM electrical harnesses, they're the only game in town that sells the M&H wiring harnesses.

this is the only case that you should be extermely happy that you used year one!
at least they will take it back without a hassle!

i had problems with amd on returning parts that didn't fit.
they jerked me around soo bad and for soo long :jerk:
i ended up buying another part that did fit on my own dime!!!!
talk about being not happy with a company. :icon_fU:
they might have some good parts but
their customer service sucks big time!
(after the fact when i complained (i was very nice up until then)
they called me
and tried blowing more smoke up my ass
trying to change the story
they did admit to being wrong after i pointed out
what happened as to how i got treated by them :icon_fU:

Year One doesn't manufacture parts. That being said, they are just a middle man that jacks up prices and have outrageous shipping charges. Shop around on anything you will find better pricing.

Year One is the antichrist of the car hobby.
