DAYCLONA 07-20-2008, 08:13 PM Hopefully the wingcar forum will pick up here,.....the DC.com site was getting real stale........same topics year after year., nothing really "moving" over there?..........so If I can help you guys out with any technical advice, or photos feel free to ask.....looks like we'll be a little more relaxed over here?

Big Mike 07-20-2008, 08:27 PM :wtg:
tobysoldblue 07-20-2008, 08:41 PM I saw them in mopar muscle i think, but im thinking of doing my own,and NOT spending 10k just to put a nose piece and rear wing on it.
mguner 07-20-2008, 09:41 PM Ok the wing cars use Coronet fenders right? So has anyone made a Supernet or Winged Bee? Put a nose and wing on a Coronet body?
69 Runner 07-20-2008, 10:05 PM Haven't ever noticed one, but I'd bet someone's done it
DAYCLONA 07-21-2008, 10:46 PM I saw them in mopar muscle i think, but im thinking of doing my own,and NOT spending 10k just to put a nose piece and rear wing on it.
If your going to do it yourself,.....that's the name of the game!...Hotroddin'.......need any ideas, or want to know what to expect? or avoid?....drop me a line.....I think I know a little "somethin" bout build'in em
Mike G/ DAYCLONA
I love your work.
Any chance of a Superbird conversion for the '73-'74 Satellite/Roadrunner in the future?
moparstuart 07-22-2008, 08:59 PM Ok the wing cars use Coronet fenders right? So has anyone made a Supernet or Winged Bee? Put a nose and wing on a Coronet body?
I will have to look for the picture but there is a coronet wing car I'll look, there is a different one then this

moparstuart 07-23-2008, 09:34 AM i love this car fender scoops side scoops and wing , nascar style air intakes on air cleaner
69 Runner 07-23-2008, 09:47 AM MAN what a great color combo on that Coronet
charger70 07-30-2008, 04:34 PM hey here is another one that has a nose but i lost the nose picture
Anybody got some daytime photos of the Coronet? love to see them.
5wndwcpe 07-30-2008, 04:54 PM I remember seeing a Superbird convertible clone at the New York Auto show about 25 years ago. It was Vitamin C with a white gut and I thought it was the coolest thing. Aside from the purchase of the base car, anyone want to venture a guess as to what the conversion would cost ? No labor, just parts.
hotrod98 07-30-2008, 05:53 PM Parts only...Nose assembly, fender scoops, wing, hood extension, coronet fenders and hood...8 to 15k, maybe more, depending on the quality of the parts. There are all types of repro parts ranging from cheapo fiberglass components, to high end fiberglass components, to steel and aluminum components.
5wndwcpe 07-30-2008, 06:02 PM Thanks.

Pastortom1 07-31-2008, 11:36 AM Hey Mike........ I'd like to know what parts you might make for Daytona conversions.........
I told Stuart that I have a pretty nice 68 Charger in my garage in new and rebuilt steel....a perfect candidate for a conversion.......big block non-R/T.......I do all my own work from fabrication to finishing too, and want the best bang for my investment........I'd be a big hit with the wife too if we did a Dayclona...
Let me know what you might have available..used parts too..anything that might help..AND, we need a 70 front clip to start.

That's what I like to see. A guy heading in the right direction from the get-go. Unlike some of us who had to learn what parts to use...the hard way.:)

mguner 07-31-2008, 10:07 PM Is the rear window from a 4dr 68-70 similar to the Charger 500 window?

chargervert 07-31-2008, 10:35 PM Is the rear window from a 4dr 68-70 similar to the Charger 500 window?
No the 69 Charger 500/Daytona Charger window is specific to that model only,It wasn't used on any other production car. I believe the rear window was only available in clear glass, not tinted.
hotrod98 07-31-2008, 10:43 PM We're fortunate that Dane and his dad figured out to use the vega hatchback to duplicate the daytona back glass way back when, but no one has found something that we can use for the superbirds. I think that it was Mike G. that told me that the repro back glasses just went up in price again. I wish I could find some kind of glass to use on my wife's bird clone. I may just have to bite the bullet and buy the repro glass. Sure glad that I didn't have to do that on the daytona clone.

Ahhhh!......young master Pete,........I generaly prefer "King of Wing".........You know me, I'm pure Evil!.............."King of the Winga's" is too "mel Brooks".....or "monty phyton":tongueflap:.............but I guess it's better than this

Larry you could always do the 70-4 Cuda rear window,....seen a few guys do it, very close, much like the vega plug is to the Tona'.......the cuda glass is about 50" at it's widest, the 68-70 B Body rear window is about 56", the Superbird rear window is about 49 " wide and about 26 " tall, the cuda is about 24 " tall last I recall?....little bit of sheetmetal work,....nothing you can't handle!.......very close, consider it?,,,,,,,,,,,,for a custom clone
Mike G
hotrod98 08-01-2008, 08:32 PM I'll look in the basement and see if I have another cuda back glass. I know I have a couple of challenger back glasses. I wonder how they measure out.
As for making the plug, it won't be easy but not impossible either. I'm beginning to wish that I hadn't sold so many of my cuda parts over the years. It's coming back to haunt me now.

Larry......... only the Cuda' glass will give you the shape/ bubble that your looking for, best to cut a widow and surrounding sheetmetal out of a parts car, or fab your own.............my plug for the bird list $650.......I told you what a discounted price for you would be, the new OEM glass is currently $875 last I checked.......if you sent me enough moulding pcs from 68-70 Plymoyh B body and Charger......I could do a set of mouldings @SB for about $250..........so for between $1500-$2000 you get, plug, glass, and mouldings, you could do the bird plug, or fab up the Cuda rear window......choice is yours.......I know your project is a little ways off for now?.........think about the pros and cons

Well PastorTom,
Larry (Hotrod98)and a whole buch of other Guys, have cleaned me out on wingcar stuff lately,.....been very busy filling orders as fast as I can......Have had over 100 orders in the last 9 months........got 3 more this week,......so as you can see, if you need anything, it would have to be ordered/fabricated
As far as what parts I make for the Daytona, everything you might need, depending on what your building.........bone stock 69 Daytona, I can supply every peice you need.........as for the 70 Charger front clip, you'll have to procure that yourself,......I could find you the front clip, but then it would have to be shipped, and when it comes to used sheetmetal, everyone has their own opinion as to what it is worth, rust issuses/ repairs, and if they want to use it on their car,........so the front clip, unless it's NOS,....is best left for you to procure...........a full blown "kit" from me, to make a 69 Daytona, would start at about 12K........
Thanks
Mike G
moparstuart 08-04-2008, 08:34 PM :tongueflap: this car is slowly becoming my dayclona ! at one time cudaken had started making it a clone
hotrod98 08-04-2008, 09:27 PM Is this the same car?
moparstuart 08-05-2008, 12:54 PM the one on the right is my car
but that one on the left has a cage and high back or racing seats , i dont think thats my car .
if you look at the picture of my car , he never that i can tell ever really mounted the wing just had the supports sitting up there nailed to a board laying onthe lid ?
It had daytona fenders on it but no nose or holes in the quarter panel ever drilled . ( to my knowledge)
hotrod98 08-05-2008, 03:00 PM The red engine bay made me think that it might be the same car. I see the difference now.
bigblocksam 08-05-2008, 05:20 PM that car on the left was on ebay a long time ago

'68-Charger-Guy 08-11-2008, 08:38 PM Dayclona,
What's your next project going to be? I've watched your progress with your cars in magazines making what what could have been what now is. Great work! It's great to see you produce cars that Chrysler was working on and the the differant ideas they had.

Well I can't let the cat out of the bag?.....yet?.....but I have several projects in the works......history revisited
Been real busy lately with customers, working on several customers cars.....ones even a "chevy":black_eye:.......1955 Belair.......making Tona'/ Bird parts for customers......leaves little time for personal projects,.......but the personal projects that I do, are for myself, what I desire.......not something to be part of the crowd, or building the latest "bling/Billet" ride.......plus my daughter has plans for me......to build with her, a dodge version of a "grave digger" "bigfoot" truck, for herself..........have a nice 71 dodge power wagon 200 4X4 to start with..........Ahhh never enough projects!..........so whata building/ working on, currently Adam?

my youngest loves grave digger , cant wait to see your idea ! he will love it for sure !!
'68-Charger-Guy 08-15-2008, 08:26 PM I have a '56 Coronet that's been on the back burner for a while. It's a 4dr that I bought fom the original owners family ( I'm a close friend of the family ). When I get around to it I want to put a 440 with a 5spd in it. I want to keep it stock looking for the most part, just a couple changes most people wont notice at first glance. My currant project is a '68 340 S Barracuda fastback... 69k original miles, red with red side strip, Marron interior, floor auto, A/C, white wall tires, 3.23:1 non posi, delux hub caps. It's an odd ball. When I'n done it'll have a factory disc setup ( I already have the compleat setup... what a pita to find new parts for & lots of $$$$ ), and a posi. I'm shooting for a stock resto R-12 and all. I will go with 2 1/2" exhaust too.
I know alot more people are moding there cars now vs bone stock, but on at least one car i'd like to be able to hop in and feel like it's 1968 again.
My altimate goal car will be a '68 Charger R/T clone with an all Aluminum Hemi and 6spd, I want it to look bone stock but put out just a little more hp. lol
Keep up the jaw droping work,
sublime green 08-17-2008, 02:53 PM Awesome, I hope to see you at carlisle for mopar week when it comes back around, i didn't see you guys last year, this year was my first. I think i read that that real green 70 daytona was sold 30 min from my house. You got any more pics, i really like that car.

Sorry. No offense intended. It's just a knee jerk reaction. Goes way back.

I think JJ claimed to have one of those in his museum at one point. That is why I wondered about the stories that might have been told about my old Superbird....since it supposedly spent time in his museum as well.

jerry's is well documented and a very very early clone done at the dealership for the original owner before it left the lot. But that in no way makes it a real factory 70 daytona. My two cents
sublime green 08-18-2008, 06:14 PM http://wwnboa.org/70csed.htm
moparstuart 08-18-2008, 07:09 PM was a dealer conversion
69 Runner 08-18-2008, 07:38 PM That's some interesting reading
sublime green 08-19-2008, 03:51 AM If it was it was, i still think its really neat. Read the bottom of this page, i dont know if some of you all saw it on that page or not.
http://www.superbird.com/70dcd.html Im not trying to get you to think what you dont think i true, just showing off these neat links.
moparstuart 08-19-2008, 11:01 AM Great info there glean what you want out of it . Sue george is one of my best friends and weather she would state that car was facotry build with the current information out there now i dont know . But untill factory paper work shows up I will believe they are all dealer built !! No daytonas started life build at the st louis plant !
hotrod98 08-19-2008, 04:18 PM I've always felt that at least one was mocked up for displays, etc and then either returned to stock form or destroyed. Didin't the original watermelon car have the stock back glass? Would have been simple to convert that one back. Chrysler didn't waste many cars. They couldn't afford to. That's why they converted some of the display cars each year rather than replacing them altogether. In other words, I think that the watemelon car was real. Now could you consider it a real daytona? Don't know. Kind of a gray area there.
sublime green 08-19-2008, 06:35 PM Yep, its like people who do and don't believe in the big foot myth but either way, i think its neat, i wonder if that green one is still around here in maryland, its rumored to but i doubt it. But i hear you on paper work stuart. Did they even have 1970 charger 500s? if so that probably could of been made into one but ive never seen a 70 500, only a converted 69 into a 70.
moparstuart 08-19-2008, 07:09 PM there were tons of 70 500 but that was just a base car line in 70 nothing special
hotrod98 08-19-2008, 08:32 PM Don't let the guys that own '70 500's hear you say that.
moparstuart 08-20-2008, 10:11 AM i'll keep that in mind , 69 500's are the best

here is sue's comment she emailed me after i emailed her this thread.
Hi Stuart:
Thanks for sending me the thread on Jerry's car. Yeah, someday when I get time I'm going to have to go in and change that page a little bit. At the time I wrote it, what 15 years ago?, I was lead to believe (by Jerry) that the "invoice" that was on display with the car was a genuine Chrysler factory document. I probably should've known better as Jerry is a bit of a story teller.
Of course, if these people will read between the lines, they would realize that I did say it is a CONVERSION kit added to a Charger SE. My only fault was believing it was a conversion made prior to the dealership, due to the fact that I believed the document came from the assembly plant. I really appreciate you're sticking up for me. Thanks. Sue
my freand has a real daytona and its 23000miles and he bought it about 4300$

satellite plumah 07-29-2009, 07:13 PM hi mike, nice to talk to ya. My question is ,if and where,do you drive these cars? I love the look of the wing cars that could of been but have never seen one at any shows. Im a south shore {bridgewater} boy and been to all the shows but Ive never seen them. Do you not do "shows" ? or have i just missed them, I know they must be super sweet in person from what ive seen in print , :confused:thanks
