Basoline 07-24-2009, 12:32 AM Hey
How do you like my super stock grille? Me and my good friend Antoon (kudos!) worked on it the whole evening last tuesday. Thought it would be a much easier job to do but it turned out to be a tough. It comes down to grinding, cutting, fitting, bending, grinding, cutting, fitting, bending...and so on. It's so awesome looking and makes the car even more evil...it almost looks "factory"...

69 Runner 07-24-2009, 08:25 AM Looks good. Wanna answer my question before I ask it? lol
Basoline 07-24-2009, 05:04 PM Yes i'm going to paint the radiator support flat black...
69 Runner 07-24-2009, 05:27 PM lol...wrong question
I was going to ask about more "crown" on the inserts than the rest of the grill
rlpagan 07-24-2009, 05:52 PM Great Job ! Looks just like the factory car pictures I sent you !
prhousejr 07-24-2009, 07:11 PM pretty.
5.7 hemi 07-24-2009, 11:14 PM Yeah, what 69 runner said.....
Wagondoors 07-25-2009, 12:59 AM lol...wrong question
I was going to ask about more "crown" on the inserts than the rest of the grill
Appears the crown is the correct 'look'.
Looks good, I dig it!

Basoline 07-25-2009, 07:12 AM The more crown on the inserts is correct i'm afraid. Back in the days, super stock grilles wheren't for sale. They where "made" by the people on the racetrack. To lose weight and not lose the stock look, they used pieces of the centersection. This is tapered to both ends so to make it fit, you have to bend the inserts which causes the "wrong" crown...If you look at it from nearby, you can tell it's...well...not factory. LOL
@rlpagan: yes, i used those as reference! Thanks!
69 Runner 07-25-2009, 07:16 AM Aaah....After giving my question some thought, that was the answer (read GUESS) that I came up with.
Make ya nervous bending those pieces to fit?
Basoline 07-25-2009, 07:42 AM Well, bending those pieces didn't...cutting up some pretty nice headlight bezels did. Once you do that, there's no going back...I hesitated before we cut them (actually, it was on my mind for like two weeks or so...hahaha).
gearheadbill 07-25-2009, 04:12 PM The crown?must be something special to 65s my 64 is flat-and the factory Hemi's were single headheads,max wedges were Dbl headlight,mine is a 64 330-Dodge.
I like the single headlight look one way or other!!!
Bill
69 Runner 07-25-2009, 04:24 PM Yes...the crown. Or peak if you prefer. Notice the ribs in the grill all have a peak (or crown), but the pieces made to replace the inboard half of the headlight bezel has to be bent more sharply because the ribs are to long in that position of the grill.
And you're incorrect. Not all of the 64 (Plymouth) Hemi cars were single headlight cars. The aluminum front end cars were. But the steel front end "nascar" cars had quad.
gearheadbill 07-25-2009, 04:49 PM Yes the Alu front end cars were single head lite,,as for other hemi cars?,I was referring to the super stock factory sedan cars only!!
I guess I should have made myself more clear Runner.

alleyoopmgv 07-26-2009, 05:18 PM It looks great!
Basoline 07-27-2009, 12:57 AM 64 grilles (both Dodge and Plymouth) aren't tapered so there's no need to bend the extra pieces...so no difference in " peak" /"crown".
wedgie 10-27-2009, 11:34 AM Appears the crown is the correct 'look'.
Looks good, I dig it!

I love the look of the single headlights, but even the original grill modifications made back in '65 looked crude. This is mine, and it too has the original crude look (by today's standards).
toniflexen 10-27-2009, 11:51 AM Hi Basoline,
it looks awesome!
Thumbs up!!!
FLo
383man 10-27-2009, 08:20 PM Man how did I miss this ?? That looks really good. I love the single headlite 64's and 65's. Very nice indeed. Ron
shopguy 11-17-2009, 08:56 AM nice job basoline! where from the stock grille did you cut the donor pieces for the SS grille? I'm looking to do the same mod....so I'm looking for a donor grille.
Mike
Basoline 11-17-2009, 11:36 AM Hi Mike,
Find yourself a centersection of the grille and cut 11 bars from the left and 11 bars from the right. From those pieces, remove the pieces that fit into the headlight bezel. Check the 3rd picture from the top in this thread. We taped the pieces that STAY with black tape. You use those bits to fit them UNDERNEATH the cut headlightbezel.
Hope everything goes well. Donīt underestimate it! Take your time...
Post some pictures when you're done!
Basoline 11-17-2009, 11:37 AM Oh, check my blog article for more details:

Oh! mine is a single head light to keep with the thread!
daredevil 11-23-2009, 06:13 PM I,ve always wondered what a 66 coronet would look like with that treatment or rewire the headlights for high low single beam and run ducts from ithe nside holes kinda like a thunderbolt
shopguy 11-23-2009, 08:10 PM basoline: do you have 22 verticles left on the donor center grille? Do you think what you have left would work for a second grille? hint: wanna sell what you have left?
Basoline 11-24-2009, 02:35 PM @Ed: check the blog ;-)
@Shopguy: well...I think the "crown" as they called it some posts back, will be too much because the whole grille is tapered to both ends (so the highest in the middle). And wanne sell? Hmmm...I'm in The Netherlands, Europe (yes I am) and I don't think transportation is really good for the leftovers.
wedgie 11-26-2009, 04:06 PM Right. You have to use the end pieces as fillers as they are "shorter. The rest of the grille is basically trash afterwards.
Moose 11-29-2009, 01:09 PM I think it looks great ! I like to see guys that are not afraid to change things a little. I have changed a lot on my car without making it look a freak. I bought a 64 4 door for $200 just for the center section of the grille that was perfect. Both end pieces were found on Ebay. All 3 were dipped to take off the anodizing and black paint, power and hand sanded to remove pit marks, then polished to a shine.
Basoline 11-29-2009, 02:08 PM Looking good!! Keep those SS-grilles coming guys!
SUPERSTOCKRACER 12-06-2009, 07:24 AM baseoline, very nice, i know the feeling cutting up the h/l besels and the donor grille.
do not paint the radiator support.all factory supperstock cars were not painted by the factory.
