toniflexen 08-03-2008, 10:46 AM Hi,
where or what are the differences between the various 64 Dodge
330
440
500 and the
Polara 500 or so?
Detroit Iron 08-03-2008, 09:34 PM I believe it was all about trim. 330 base... 500 top of the line. I'm not sure what options were available on what. Anyone else know? Like... could you get a 383 engine in a 330 car? How about a slant 6 in a Polara 500?
MaxWedge-Warren 08-04-2008, 02:39 PM I think it's trim too and the number of tail lights. The 330 and 440 only have 2 tail lights on each side and the Polara 500 has 3 on each side with that backing panel that runs behind them. I also think it's the number of headlights too. My Polara 500 has 2 headlights on each side. But, I've seen some with 1 light on each side. I'm not sure about drivetrain options though.

GTXperience 08-04-2008, 02:48 PM Toni, are you looking at picking one up?
toniflexen 08-05-2008, 01:07 AM Toni, are you looking at picking one up?
Maybe... :)
Trim is the biggest difference. post, coupe, sedan ,330 no chrome, 2 tail lights
500 polara tons of chrome 3 tail lights. everything else was in the middle. Not 100% sure but I believe that back then you could order any model with any engine/trans combo offered. My Polara came as a slant 6 auto No power brakes or steering. had lots of Chrome and a radio thats about it:shruggy:
glhcarl 08-09-2008, 08:02 AM Polara 500 came standard with a 318 (wide block). The slat 6 was standard in all other models.
toniflexen 08-09-2008, 08:41 AM thank you all :)
superstocker64 08-16-2008, 03:19 PM I agree with all the trim answers. Someone asked about engine options in the low line 330... My 333 is an original 383 four-speed four barrel car. I believe most all drivetrain options were open for every model from the 6 banger all the way up to the mighty Max Wedge 426. Check out Darrell Davis' website and books and also Greg Lane's website. Lot's of good solid info on there.
black64 04-01-2009, 12:54 PM I believe the 330 is only in sedan build no hardtops. mine shows trim level on the outside plus the two tail lamps.
Basoline 04-01-2009, 02:21 PM Superstock cars came with only 2 headlights. They carried the 426 Max Wedge engine and in the late 64's, the hemi was introduced. You can tell by the hoodscoop.
330 was the base, low-end model of the Dodge series (can be compared with the Savoy from the Plymouth division). it could be ordered with a /6 (3 on the tree) and even with a 383 (4 speed). 330's never came with bucket seats, except Superstock models. There where no 4 door 330's.
Dodge 330 = Plymouth Savoy
Dodge 440 = Plymouth Belvedere
Dodge 500 = Plymouth Fury
It's all about trimline...Oh, check out the Maximum Performance book by Jim Schield too...that's a MUST HAVE!
Toni...what are you fishing at?
69 Runner 04-01-2009, 08:54 PM Not so. HEMI super stock cars had one headlight. Max Wedge cars had 4 if they originally came with them
grumpydodge 10-19-2009, 07:16 PM 1963 and 1964 Dodge 330 and 440 - Sedan and 4 door. 500 2 door and Conv. all could have 170, 318 and 383. 330 and 440 Hemi.
SEE ATTACHED PICTURE 1964 Dodge 330 4 door sedan OPTIONS include a/c, radio, set belts, drivers mirror and automatic.
never2fasst 10-19-2009, 08:03 PM Not all verts were 500s. There were standard Polara convertibles in 1964 (split bench front, no console, normal rear seat).
yellowdartdave 02-19-2010, 04:15 PM This should answer most of your ?'s about the 64 Dodge.

And not all 64 Super Stock Hemis came with only 2 headlights.

Nice thread, lot's of good info!
64 Post 02-20-2010, 10:15 AM [QUOTE=Basoline;22207] There where no 4 door 330's.[quote]
Incorrect. And you're off base on the other shit, too.
Got to chime in here,as I have a little affiliation with these cars. My former Faubel car was Bud's first MW piece, delivered to him in the fall of '63. 440 hardtop, aluminum front clip,12.5:1,torqueflite. Red exterior,red/white interior(the headliner was white;was still in the car when I had it and sold it. The h-liner was burned at the B-pillar area, where part of the roll bar was cut away) and had several paint-overs by the time I got it. The trim was similar in concept to the Belvedere,in that it was basically a long body-length piece(wider than a Belvedere's,as can be seen in the pic) with a little more ornate section at the front of the car. I have never seen a 440-trimmed sedan(they were offered) and the 330 did have a side trim similar to the Belvedere again.
I had a chance to buy the Hughes 64 Hemi car back in the late 1980's-notice it has 4 headlights;it also was an all steel car. I had spoken with the (second?) owner-Lynn ??? from St Johns,Michigan-numerous times when I had the Faubel car. Great guy and told me a lot about what a unique piece it was. Like I said, all steel car, with an 11:1 cross-ram equipped Hemi originally(there has been some question as to whether this was built with a 12.5 or 11 c.r. mill) and was NOT a NASCAR "Track-Package" car like Lynn Ronzello's 64 Belvedere. The St Johns owner told me that the car had an engine replacement early on its life. If I remember correctly, the car was not built with the hood scoop-that was supposedly added. Last I heard,Mr. Hughes still had it-I was fortunate to have spoken with him as well many years ago.
Someone out there has got to have a Dodge brochure(I used to have all the variations of the dealer literature for both 64 Dodge and Plymouth) that shows the variations in trim. Wish I could be of more help.
yellowdartdave 02-21-2010, 11:34 AM Al K,
I have known Marvin and Joan since 1977 and lived about 10 miles away from them. I have helped him on several of his cars. Nothing major, lend a hand here, detail this piece there, call him about a rare find in a junkyard 1/2 way across the country.
I still have the Car Craft magazine with a seperate section written by Lynn on this car. And he stated that the car came with the scoop brand new.
And Lynn was the 1st owner. He originally ordered a MW car but they quit making them before the car was built.
I will download the articles onto photobucket on Monday (the mag is on my desk) and post it here.
yellowdartdave 02-22-2010, 12:47 PM Here is the story straight from Lynn Ferguson...........

Marvin's 'fleet' to follow shortly.

Hey bud;thanks for the corrections. It's been a few(20+) years and (quite)a few brain cells ago. Nice to know that that gorgeous car is still around. Got to look for that magazine as well!
Interestingly, when I bought the body of the Faubel car,I was told it was a Hemi car. I wondered about that, especially since the right shock tower hadn't been modified-this was before I discovered that it was Bud's car-and I recently read that it did get a Hemi transplant, before the conversion to the twin-turbo setup. I presume with a cross-ram and twin 4bbl's,though I'm not sure where that car(or the Ferguson/Hughes car) would have fit in NHRA's rulebook-perhaps /MP or /FX. Lou Mancini showed me why it was a Max Wedge car,and what made it so.
yellowdartdave 02-23-2010, 08:10 AM In 1964 it ran in the A/S class. It fit right in B/MP in 1965.
And I know what you mean about brain fade. I worked at a small C/P from 70 to 74. And in high school, won the Plymouth Troubleshooting Nationals.
Yep, we are still getting older everyday.
