craigandlynda 08-05-2008, 06:22 PM i just put on ebay, a fender tag that simply says "BODY IN WHITE" on one line, and "SPECIAL ORDER" on the next line...see description at ebay item # 170247236742. this needs to go to a sincere MoPar person, who will take good care of it.
GTXperience 08-05-2008, 06:29 PM How do you know if it's going to go to a sincere Mopar person on ebay. All you can be sure of it that it will go to the person that has the most money to buy it. How about just offering it up here for a set amount if you are concerned with its welfare? Maybe someone here actually needs it.
craigandlynda 08-05-2008, 08:53 PM Actually, the more i think about it, only a mopar person would even be interested...it is on ebay because it is the kind of specialty thing that only a small number of widely spread out (geographically) people would be interested in, and just about every mopar person i know watches ebay...at this writing, it already has bids, and i have no set price because i have no idea what it is really worth...what do you think its worth? could you tell me anything about this type of tag?
GTXperience 08-05-2008, 09:42 PM Well, it's yours to do with what you think is right but it's still going to go to the person that bids the highest amount not necessarily the person that could use it the most. If it was posted here first (and wasn't your initial post), I would give it a little more creedance but it seems like it was posted just to draw more people into the auction to bid on it. Again, it is yours to do with as you please. Good luck.
The Body In White (BIW) Program was mainly for race teams and those who wanted the cars they ordered as stripped down as possible since they would be building them the way they wanted. I believe this may have been just the unibody itself or partially assembled with sheetmetal. They were delivered in a very light grey primer which looked white.
General Definition of Body in White:
Body in White or BIW refers to the stage in automotive design or automobile manufacturing in which the car body sheet metal (including doors, hoods, and deck lids) has been assembled or designed but before the components (chassis, motor) and trim (windshields, seats, upholstery, electronics, etc.) have been added.
The name is derived from manufacturing practice before steel monocoque bodies, sometimes trademarked unibody. When most cars were made by firms as just a frame, with an engine, suspension, and fenders attached, the manufacturers built or purchased wooden bodies (with thin, non-structural metal sheets on the outside) to bolt onto the frame. The bodies really were painted white as a preliminary to being painted the customer's chosen color. During the Great Depression, firms had a large inventory of these bodies and took a long time to sell them off. Now that car bodies are made of steel, the phrase remains and has a folk etymology that it comes from the appearance of the car body after it is dipped into a white bath of primer (undercoat paint)—when actually the color is usually light gray.
In car design, the Body in White phase refers to the phase in which the final contours of the car body are worked out, in preparation for ordering of the expensive production stamping die. Extensive computer simulations of crash worthiness, manufacturability, and automotive aerodynamics are required before a clay model from the design studio can be converted into a Body in White ready for production.

Why does anyone care?
It has no V.I.N. on it to tie it to any particular car. These tags are not terribly rare as they appeared mainly on police cars, taxis and vehicles that eventually became ambulances. If someone wants one of thes tags certainly one of the current fender tag makers would make one for anybody.
daniel_depetro 08-16-2008, 08:54 AM ...but it's still going to go to the person that bids the highest amount not necessarily the person that could use it the most.
That is the entire reason for people listing items on eBay.
I need the A12 specific parts for my 69-1/2 Super Bee.
Even though I need them more then "anyone else", because I have no money I am forced to go without. People are not gonna sell them to who needs the parts, but to the person with the most money, regaurdless of what their plans are for it.
Maybe I just have no faith left for humankind.
On the other hand I am looking for an A12 air cleaner assembly, lift off hood, set of 15 x 6" 'H' wheels, 4.10:1 Dana 60 rear, 18-spline 4-speed manual transmission, 11" belhousing, 1969 E 440 HP2 lynch road short block, 4-speed center carburetor...
So anyone who wants to do the 'right thing' and help me build my car correctly with super cheap correct original parts will be greatly thanked and paid back in due time.
Until that happens I'll just have to make do with the parts I have which is fine by me (a non HP 1968 440 4-bbl. engine, 23-spline transmission set-up, steel hood with a scoop fitted, 8-3/4" rear; idid just buy a van with a Dana under it though..., and incorrect 15 x 6 steel wheels; though I will run my AR Vectors or my Weld ProStars on the car)
rumblefish360 08-16-2008, 11:59 AM Is that even leagal selling a tag like that?
daniel_depetro 08-16-2008, 12:42 PM Why wouldn't it be? It's no different then selling any other part off the car.

Pastortom1 08-16-2008, 03:12 PM I tore a tag off my wife's dress and ripped it...........THAT, I found, was worse than illegal.
