mini starter

Has anyone here installed a mini starter on a 69 383 engine? I'm thinking trying one but don't know if a $65.00 one from the internet is ok, or should I spend $275.00 for a mopar performance P5007860AB. Thanks for your input.

When I was pricing them out I checked Napa and Car Quest and two performance shops all were in the $200+ range, best price I found was at a Dodge dealer here in town. I figured they would be the most expensive.

I bought mine from 440source.com for around $65.00 new and it works fine.

I put the stock mini on all my cars now. I've been getting them from my local you pull it JY. The cost me about $17.00 Van are the best. The trans is always gone already. The starter is just haging for the harvest. I try to look for replacement ones. Got lucky with 3 so far. I miss the the old "I don't want ta" crank though.

Thanks for the application info-is it a "bolt-on",or are any mods required?

I would steer clear of the cheapos on fleabay.You get what you pay for.Bought one for my gasser and got maybe 20 starts before it smoked,put a standard size one back and been good to go for a couple years now.

The only mod you have to do is remove the brass & plastic top mounting power terminals. The cause an interference with the 440 block. But after removal you still have the 2 mounting lugs you can use for power. I got my last one from autozone for about $70 and it spins a 505 no problem.

I bought a mini starter for my 70 440, removed the top mounting terminals so it would fit the block, but now the terminals are still very close to the engine block. there's only about 1/16" of space between the block and terminal. Is this normal? seems a little too close for comfort.

i have one i bought from mopar performance back in the early 1990,maybe even late 80s,,,in my barracuda 340.. still works great,,have one in my street rod on an early dodge red ram hemi,,,

the starter i bought from mopar performance,, is the starter they were putting in the rams,,dakotas,,,durangos,,and vans on the 3.9 5.2 5.9 engines,,,and can be gotten at most junk yards cheap,,,,ive read the only thing that goes bad on these starter is the terminual lugs,,we just repaired one bought from an after market co,, sold as new,,now im thinking it wasnt,,, the terminual lugs were TOAST,, 5 bucks for both at a local auto electrical shop,,,can be gotten at most auto parts stores,,, cant beat the junk yard price,,,

3.9 - 5.2 - 5.9 Dodge engine's starters all work, I bought mine new for a 95 Dakota,it turns my 440 stroker , no problems yet.

Okay maybe a basic question...here goes. Bought the 440 Source mini starter. Of the two mounting holes one is quite a bit larger. Appears that they both bolt in with a 7 1/16th bolt (1 is a stud). Is there a bushing for the bigger hole? Which of the holes is for thbolt and which is for the stud? Thanks for any help. (going on a b-engine w/ 727 trans)

I'm pretty sure the stud goes in the top hole so the starter can be hung while starting the bottom bolt. This is what I did anyway. I don't remember using any bushings. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Oh, you're talking about the starter, nevermind.....:bootyshake:

The one I got has some metal that needs to be ground out. I think it's right at the tip of the nose, and won't let it fully seat. Weird thing is, you can see exactly where the "old" mold line is and use that as a grinding guide.
