Cleaning White Interior

I have been trying to clean both white interiors in the '71 Dart and '68 GTX with relatively ok results. Both are original interiors. I have only used a very mild cleaner and water along with a soft horsehair brush. I've gotten the surface dirt off but they are still a little dingy. Someone suggested cutting down the white wall cleaner I used to use years ago but was a little concerned about doing so. The name of it starts with a "W" (perhaps Wesleys) but it is escaping me right now. What products/methods have you all used to clean original interiors (especially white)? TIA.

I have used the McGuires vinyl cleaner and it works pretty good. My buddy has a product he ALWAYS used on white interiors but unfortunately passed away before he was able to let me know what it was. Check with owners at shows is my best advice.

I use the Bleche White on everything white! Have done so for MANY years with no ill effects on convertible, vinyl tops or interior! I follow that with protectivve Armor All! Great stuff!

Yes, I was thinking that it may be hard on the material (especially the stitching). I'll check into the Meguiars as well.

Use a dry eraser. They get stuff out of the caracks very nicely and brighten it up. They are availabl only at Wal Mart I believe. In the cleaning supplies.

Yes, the "Mr Clean Eraser"....works very well,........having a white interior in 2 cars, plus 1 with a white vinyl roof,....white can be a bitch to clean!....you have to stay on it,...don't let it get nasty!........another product that I use inside and out on white,....for really stubborn stains, is 3M general purpose adhesive solvent,.....be careful not to get any on a painted, or dyed surface, as it will strip it!.....works great on whitening naturaly white vinyl tops, upholstery, trim,....just test a small area first!.......don't wipe across the grains, wipe with.......use WHITE CLEAN RAGS/ CLOTHS ONLY......or you'll be sorry!.....and don't saturate the area, gently clean the area, move on, if you have to go back to it later,.....give it chance to vent the solvent!.......works great on white wall/ lettered tires!......but you got to wipe just the stripe or letter, will smear black, if you just wipe away at it!....so be careful....but the results it yields are great!........and as far as silicone treatments, on white, it's kinda a No-No,....cause it hastens the "yellowing"....plus traps a lot of crap in the grain,......after you've "rejuvenated" your top or interior, just use mild soap and water to clean with clean natural sponges/ white rags......only resort to the Eraser, or solvents for tuff stains

I used the Eraser on my big ol' white buddy seat on my FLH, worked quite well.

Has anybody tried something like Simple Green? It can be used on just about anything and it leaves a nice smell when your finished.

My son's 72 Dart has a white interior and I used to own a 70 Charger R/T with a white interior. I just always used warm water and a mild soap solution to keep everything clean. I'm getting ready to instal a brand new pearl white interior on my 66 Coronet, so I will be taking notes from this thread on newer products that are available. :sSig_nicethread:

Yes it is a cleaner. Pep Boys, Discount Auto, all of 'em carry it. It's great and never harmed a seat and we've had a BUNCH of white interior cars, 'cause I like 'em!!

From years and years of experience.....Simple Green is the best, and the best way is to REMOVE the seats (NOT difficult, even in your driveway).....

Spray it on full strength and mist with a tiny bit of water......Use a plastic bristle scrub brush to scrub the seats one section at a time......finish one section, then hose it off quickly.........complete the seat, wipe it dry, and treat it with a good vinyl treatment.........

(then put them back in the car....and wear rubber gloves...:grin:)

Dont use armor-all on your white top.It WILL yellow it.Dont ask me how I know.Nothing with silicone.All though I would like to know what to use to bring back the shine.Someone told me that 303 protectant doesnt have silicone in it.

Tuff Stuff,Simple Green,or bleach water..

I have had good luck with the Castrol super clean or industrial purple soap from Home Depot. It has sodium hydroxide, which is a caustic so don't let it sit on aluminum or your hands. The soft bristle brush is a must. Just work it in and wipe it off with a damp rag. Treat with a good vinyl conditioner after.

Simple green is da Sh*t!!! I dilute it half water and half of the mean green (the liquid that is LOL) and it works great. rinse with a warm, damp rag and dry with a towel.. Showroom new! :yes:
