thebankerstoy 08-09-2008, 08:19 PM After looking in amazement at onebadmk8's AWESOME scale models, I got to wondering if there were any other diecast collectors here on FBBO. I have been collecting 1:18 scale (and smaller) cars and trucks since 1998 and now have a collection that numbers over 700 and still growing. :)
Mopar muscle cars and race cars make up about 80% of my collection, with the rest being various race cars, 1965 and 1966 Shelby Mustangs, 1965 and 1966 Shelby Cobra's, a few misc AMC's, Fords and Chevy's and a bunch of the original 1:18 scale "Muscle Machines". I also have some Dodge NASCAR trucks and cars, along with a few other Dodge trucks.
The pictures posted below were taken a few years ago after I had remodeled my fanily room to showcase my collection and before I got my digital camera. If anybody is interested, I can take some more updated pictures that will show lots of cars that have been added since these photo's and if anyone has a certain car that they would like to see and I have it, let me know and I will take pictures of it for you.
So, am I the only diecast collector here on FBBO? If not, I'd love to see what you've got!:grin:

I'm not a diecast collector, but enjoy building plastic model Mopars. Can you share any details on onebadmk8's scale models? I haven't built in awhile (just finished our basement and now have space again) and am looking for a little motivation to get back to building.
Here's a quick link to some stuff I have in the works: http://public.fotki.com/68383/
Thanks,

Here's a link to one of his threads here on FBBO, but you might want to PM him and I'm sure that he would be happy to talk with you about the cool Mopar plastic kits. ;)

kidsixpack 08-09-2008, 11:09 PM I love'em! Started collecting when Ertl started the musclecars in 91 or so. I just recently got them out to display. It's really nice to see them out instead of in boxes. I've sold 50 or so just because I don't really have the room.
KID
a12superbee 08-10-2008, 12:12 AM Cool. :) I have maybe 30 or so and would love to collect 'em all as they say. :)
thebankerstoy 08-10-2008, 11:46 AM kidsixpack,
It looks like you have some NICE cars and trucks in your collection! Do you have any favorite cars you like to collect? If so, I would be very happy to let you know when cars that you're looking for are being released, as I am friends with the awesome folks at Supercar Collectibles www.supercar1.com and keep up on all of the new cars coming out.
a12superbee,,
yep, once you start collecting these awesome scale diecast, it gets in your blood just like the real cars do!:grin:
Richard
a12superbee 08-10-2008, 01:07 PM I wish they made a lot model kits in 1:18. I haven't done a 1:24/25th in years, the pieces are to small to see anymore. lol

I hear you! My eye sight sucks also and that's why I switched to the 1:18 scale diecast. I know folks who buy 1:18 scale cars and then take them apart and customize them. The diecast cars being produced by companies like Highway 61 are NOT the cheap, poorly made cars that came out back in the beginning. They have full working suspensions, rotating driveshafts, steerable front wheels, real rubber tires, fully detailed interiors with some having moveable sun visors and seats, opening glovebox doors and fully detailed engines and engine compartments! They run between $50.00 to $80.00 on average, but are well worth it in my humble opinion!

Well that track and the other I posted the pic of are hand routed 1/32nd scale tracks. They both are what as know as AC2Car tracks.
The one you asked about is a 3 lane track that 6 cars can race on at once, the other is a 4 lane capable of 8 cars at once.
The trick to running 2 cars in a single lane is the AC2Car system. The track is AC powered instead of your normal DC power, so each car requires a diode added to it. The tracks also have a second set of 3 lanes which are the passing lanes and have a pit area also.
This requires a lane changing setup that allows the car behind in a lane to switch to the passing lane to get around the other car in it's lane. This goes for the pit area also.
Here's a couple pics of the track you asked about. First is the pit lanes, second is a shot of the Targa Florio section and the last pic is the Corkscrew at Lagun Seca from the 4 lane track I posted.
All those cars have drivers and are controlled individually.
Much easier to do than explain.

Not quite true, as said, I have about 30. My biggest problem is a way to display them without them getting all dusty. I'm a single guy and dusting ain't at the top of my free time list. How do you display all of yours Banker?
Not to mention the temptation to take them out to play with them. :)
thebankerstoy 08-18-2008, 12:27 AM Thanks onebad. :)

Well, for me to store all of my cars, I had to COMPLETELY remodeled my family room and built two walls worth of floor to ceiling display units, capable of holding most of my collection! They are stored from 1 to 5 cars deep, depending on how deep the shelf is and two cars high on each shelf, so I move them around ever so often to display different cars.
As far as keeping them clean goes, they always stay in their original display boxes, which keeps them in like new condition. Every couple of months or so, I take down each car in it's display box and CAREFULLY clean off the dust from each display box and then put the unit back in place. With over 700 vehicles, it takes some time, but it's MUCH easier and safer than trying to dust off the cars themselves. It's kind of like running a 1/18th scale diecast car lot, as I also keep very detailed records on each car, so I know where, when and how much I paid for each car.
Richard
kidsixpack 08-18-2008, 01:19 AM Keeping the dust off is why I've decided to leave the majority of them in the boxes. It's much easier than dusting the cars.
Wow! That slot car track is awesome! If I had a huge garage full of cars I'd do something like that out there. Way Cool!

a12superbee 08-18-2008, 04:35 AM The wall shelf certainly looks to be the way to do it. They do have those display boxes but last I looked they were about 20$ apiece. Maybe I need to start surfing the 'bay and try to get them cheaper. The best one I have is a hemi under glass signed by Bob Rigel. :)

I have one of the 66 "Hemi Under Glass" cars also and I agree, they are a VERY nicely detailed car! Here's some pictures of my car for those who haven't seen the diecast cars. My son and I were able to see and meet Bob and one of his "Hemi Under Glass" cars awhile back and he was VERY nice to us and signed a couple of items for us.

Hey Kid,
Like you, I think that the real car is absolutely AWESOME, so when I heard that Highway 61 was going to reproduce this famous car for Campbell Collectibles in 1/18 scale diecast, I was REALLY stoked! While the car is VERY well detailed, the fact that they didn't retool a new body mold to include the altered rear wheel well openings like the real car had to help make room for wider tires, that really disapointed me, as this car was just to big of a piece of the Chrysler performance history to not make the diecast version as accurate as possible you know? Still a very cool diecast to have in the collection though.
By the way, did you have a chance to buy one of the Highway 61 all black 1967 GTX Super Street cars that was made for Supercar Collectibles back in 2002 ? The all black car with the Cragar mags looks killer!
Richard
I also have 30-40 of them. I run more to the old drag cars. Bit I am hooked on the Roadrunner converts GMP has out now.

Not only do you have some REALLY cool cars, but I also love your semi tractor trucks! I'd really like to see some more pictures of those semi's if you can. What scale are they? Are they plastic or diecast?
Richard
63hemipolara 08-27-2008, 11:15 AM I'll put some better pictures of the trucks up here tonight. Most that are pictured are 1:24 models. I have one that I forgot to take a picture of but it's a HUGE 1:12 scale Peterbuilt, I'll add that one tonight as well. Glad you like them, they are fun to build just because they are so different from cars. The green one that I posted here is from the TV show Movin' On (from the 70's).

Thanks, I guess I had a lot more patience when I was 16-20yrs old.
mikelbeck 09-06-2008, 10:36 PM That's some cool stuff there!
I collect mostly Petty cars, but have a bunch of others also... Mine aren't nearly as neat as yours, though... Plus I'm sure they're a lot more dusty because they're out of the boxes.

Stumper 11-24-2010, 08:16 AM Any of you collectors ever come across a 62' Plymouth B body in the 1:18 / 1:24th scale?? I've been hunting for one for the past couple of years but the earliest I have found is a 63' Dodge. I'd love to get one. Found them inthe 1:64th.
Jim 68cuda 12-15-2010, 07:30 PM The 62 Plymouth has only beed done in diecast in 1/64 scale as far as I know (Johnny Lightning and Racing Champions). There was an Eldon 1/32 scale 62 Plymouth slot car back in the 60's, and Johan made 1/25 scale promos and kits of the 62 Plymouth 2 door hardtop and convertible. Both Johan kits were reissued in the 80's. Revell made a 1/25 scale 62 Plymouth 4 door kit back in the early 60's I believe. I'm not aware of any other 62 Plymouth B bodies in any scale.
Meanwhile, heres a link to a few of my 1/18 scale diecasts in diorama settings. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=3519&id=100001111775214&l=b49915c639
I also do the 1/32 scale slot car thing. No photos, but I have a Carrera 1/32 scale slot car track arranged in a figure eight almost fitting on shelving I bought at Ikea for my diecasts. The shelves are very deep, but in one spot, the track does hang over the edge.
MarPar 12-15-2010, 08:43 PM A lot of sweet diecasts, guys!!! just finished this section of shelving this weekend. Going to have to put up more shelves though...the bug has bit me again!!!!

I did a Fleabay search for Eldon slot cars for the heck of it. No 62 Plymouths to be found.. I was surprised to see the poor quality of these cars. Not at all as I remember them as a kid. I remember these larger slot cars having much better quality chassis, drives and bodies on them.
BlknBlu 12-15-2010, 09:25 PM I have about a dozen A12 cars and would trade one in a heartbeat for 68 Coronet R/T which I have never seen.

68sportsatelliteragtop 12-16-2010, 08:05 PM Here are a few pics of our collection. These are about all the wife will put up with in the house on display the rest are in boxes in the attic and out in the garage on the shelf. My son and I have been collecting for quite a while and he can't go near a store without rummaging through the Hot Wheels, he will be 24 next month. Oh well if that is the worst of my bad habits he suffers from he will be alright!
