How to get my Charger Faster.

I have a 1974 Dodge Charger and im on a super tight budget because of college.

Shes got the 360 and it will be remaining in the car. 8 3/4 rear with 3.55 sure grip.

-Im going to remove the steel hood for a Fiberglass hood.
-275/60R15 BF Radials out back.
-Battery in trunk
-Front/rear high performance sway bars. w/ drag shocks in the rear and adjustable front shocks.
-Trans shift kit/ deep sump pan and 5.1 up kick lever
-Dual Exhaust
-Urethane performance rubber body/suspension/engine/trans bushings

ENGINE:
-#596 heads opened up with polished valves and reshaped chambers.
-Heads milled .80 to bring comp up to about 11:1
-Crosswind intake (eddy rpm AG)
-Hooker headers
-600cfm eddy carb
-Windage tray, harded dist shaft/gear, hi-volume oil pump
-MP dist set/orange ECU
-MP viscus fan.


Im keeping it very simple so i can get the thing on the road and cruise for a bit this summer. Does any one else have any other tricks & tips to make this beast alittle quicker?

With all that done, how quick to you think she'll go in the 1/4 mile?
I'm hoping for 15flat or under if it will hook up.

11:1 compression??? Really?? That's quite a bit. What cam? Have you done a cranking compression test? If you have what PSI do you get?

11:1 is a "little" steep for Iron head street motor, .....It won't like pump gas very much.:no:

I was wondering why you are putting HiPo sway bars on when you want to go fast in the drags. Suspensionwise, it doesn't make sense. Get Moog bushings for the control arms. There isn't enough deflection in them to warrant going poly. Plus on the LCA's I have noticed shifting in the the poly's that I have installed in my cars. Use solid mounts between the K-frame and the longitudinals and weld in subframe connectors. The more you can get the car to work for you, the less you will have to stress the engine for any given performance level.

pull out any weight you can. 100lbs is a tenth of a second in the 1/4.

pull the front swaybar first. That will save you weight and let the car transfer the weight rearward more efficiently. Bigger carb! 600 probobly works great on the street, but at WOT, you're giving away a lot of upper RPM's.

Lastly, if you want to go fast without reworking the motor significantly,..... two words: Nitrous Oxide. An NOS powershot or super powershot system will give you lots of bang for your buck.

Sounds like a 15 flat is probable. The sway bars and moving the battery might not gain as much as a pair of drag radials. The 11 to 1 compresion dos'nt sound very "budget'' with the cost of race fuel around 7 bucks a gal. Going racing sounds like a good plan though, running consistant wins rounds. Wining makes it alot funner!
