Cool car.. great find ! -RPM Donny 05-10-2010, 10:15 PM When you say "buy one and do it yourself" referring to Media Blasting. Ahum, let me edumacate you on this sir. When I hear this kind of talk, I wonder why would anyone want to spend 75K on a Media Blasting system to do it themselfs; just one time? I wonder if you mean something along the lines of Harbor Freight Tools' Sand Blasting pots? Let me tell you, you are going to waste your money if you buy that stuff and attempt to do it yourself. What parts do you want to do yourself? Go and check out my website and watch the movies and look at the pictures, then, hire a professional in your area to do it, you'll be glad you did. ty1969 05-11-2010, 12:39 AM that answer is good enough for me donny i will call around in the morning and find someone who does it thank's ty Donny 05-11-2010, 08:57 AM Oh yeah, and here's some questions to ask your Media Blaster, or, points to know/understand. 1. What material do you use? (soft media is best on all parts of the car) 2. What air pressure do you use? (30-40 psi is where you want to be, if they can't do it at that pressure, they likely have a weak compressor; and will have lots of moisture) 3. Do they use a Rotisserie? 4. Do they paint (prime) over their work before giving you the car back? (bad sign; usually these guys paint over a half-ass job, hiding it from you, this is one big reason I don't offer painting/priming services -- I want the client to see it all stripped down bare and naked, they can prime/paint it) 5. Also, it's a balance between time and fixed pricing. If a Media Blaster is running his operation with a weak compressor, it will take him more time to do a part. If they are billing by the hour, and it's up around $150.00 per hour, it could get out of control. (I try to work as fast as I can on pieces I do, this way it keeps my compressor running less as that is a HUGE part of my operating expenses). 6. Some air compressors' specs you should sniff around on; should be at least 180cfm, preferably a Screw type compressor - this ensures the operator has a stout air supply to work from. And, GOOD LUCK, keep the pics coming. andybuzz2u 05-11-2010, 02:15 PM Hey just wanted to say that is one nice project you have there. I'm still kicking myself for passing up on 69 sat conv years ago. As far as the body work goes, and if you can manage it, both time and money wise, then take it to Auto Rust Technicians in Cranston, Rhode Island. There the best. They don't paint, or work on engines but they do know how to get rid of rust and can replace just about anything thats metal on your car. PDFROGMAN 07-28-2010, 01:01 PM hello, Glad I found this forum I too am restoring a 69 sport satellite convert. I bought my car mid restoration, most of rust was taken car of.new quarters were hung on car floors and trunk are very solid there is some rust and rot where the windshield sits but the car is totally apart so it should be an easy fix my car was completely apart so if you dont mind I'll be asking a few questions when I assemble the car good luck with your resto! Frank morbidgoat 07-29-2010, 02:22 AM you said you found that car in a shed in another state? what are you doing going through other peoples sheds? jk lol nice find Sneke_Eyez 08-23-2010, 10:09 AM yhea the body's a little rough the good thing is the only thing not original was the trans i got new body panels coming and the number's matching motor is at the machine shop i have the driver side fender the guy i bought it from said he came home from vacation and he kid had taken off for no reason the good thing is he saved the bolts the motor turned over the top goes up and down and the brakes still worked after sitting for 21 years and the best thing i asked what he wanted for it he said 600.00 and i said i will take it thank's ty Wow.
