I have seen many posts asking what were the largest rear tires one could put on a stock 66 b-body car. I took a 66 Bel I with a Dana 60 in it and proceeded to check.
So I had 265, 275, 285, 60 15s mounted on the same size and backspaced 8 inch wide wheels and proceeded to try them.
All required the car to be up in the air with the rear down as far as it would hang.
265 fit all the way around
275 MIGHT fit with BFH work
285 would fit with use of a pannel cutter, plasma cutter, lots of duck tape......and the BFH :tongueflap:
64cubed 09-19-2008, 05:04 PM I have 275/60/15 on 7inch rims on my 64 on the rear 225's up front no scrapping at all.:)
Do you think 7 inches, is wide enough to safely hold that tire size? I like to keep the rim/ tread width at as near 80 percent ratio as practical.. keeps the sidewall flexing way down.
64cubed 09-19-2008, 08:03 PM My brother in law is a western regional manager of a large tire store chain.
He started as a tech many years ago I ran it by him before I got them.
He said no safety issues. BFG recommends 7.5 so its not a huge difference.

The 66-67 have the smallest wheel wells of ALL "B" bodies.
I have a set of 9"X 15"X 30" slicks for the car on either 7" or 8" (can't remember for sure) standard back space wheels and with tire growth through the 1/4 mile it is as big as you dare go.
Mike_Dodge 09-20-2008, 02:43 PM IIRC correctly, Plymouths have a longer wheelbase than the Dodges by a 1" on the B-bodies, so wouldn't that give them an advantage on tire size in the back?
With stock springs, I've had 255/60/15's on a 4" backspacing rub on my Coronet when driving. Sitting was fine, but make any kind of turn or romp on the gas that made the back end squat and it was rub city.

Yes, there is a 1" difference from Dodge and Plymouth but it should not effect the wheel wells as I believe there are the same size.
If I remember correctly, that is the size of my drag radials on my 66 Hemi Coronet and I have no trouble with rubbing but mine are on wheels with standard back spacing which I believe is 4 1/2"s.
The rear end is about 1.25 inches offset to the front on 66-67s, relocate it towards the rear and centered in he wheelwell and you can gain size also. This proceedure is a little more complicated than mounting tires.

you can take the front spring mounting brackets off a dodge coronet to move the springs back an inch on a plymouth belv/satellite

Unless you start massaging, pounding, porta powering this is about it. On my former Coronet wagon I ran a 9x30 Firestone on a steel 7" (4 1/4" Back spacing) and they fit nice. They had around an 11 1/2" (+/-) side wall width. I also centered the housing.

On the wheelbase, it's the other way around. In the 66/67 B's .The 66/67 Dodge B's are listed at 117" including the Charger, and the 66/67 Plymouth B's are listed at 116".
I have 28"x9"x15" slicks on my 66 Satellite no rubbing no mods. I run a 275x60x15 street tire on the same car, no rubbing no mods. If you check the 275x60x15 is almost the exact same dimensions as the 28x9x15 slick.
From what Ive read by some Coronet owners it does seem like the66/67 Dodge B's
are tougher to fit rear tires even with the extra inch.
