I finally got my new motor running last night. It took 2 nights to figure out the electronic ignition wiring! I still have a few bugs to work out...mainly it is not charging. It is a new alternator, and it seems to be working but it is not charging the battery. I'm assuming that I either have the wrong wire hooked up to the field terminal on the alternator or I forgot a wire. This new alternator has 2 field terminals and I only have a wire hooked to one of them. I'm not sure if this is right. Anyone have any suggestions???

each terminal is for each brush. that is why it is not charging. you are only grounding one brush. you need to ground both brushes.

I have 2 wires going to the "big terminal" on the alternator (with a nut on it) and 1 wire going to one of the field terminals.

Yes there are 2 wires hooked up to the voltage regulator. Do they both need to be hooked to the alternator?

im not positive but it sounds like you got the wrong alt. 69 and older used the big black box style volt reg and an alt with 1 field wire 70 on up use the little silver volt reg that has a two wire harness that plugs into it and the alt then has two field wires. i had a similar problem like that i ordered an alt from local parts store and they gave me the two field alt i said i didnt think it was right so they sent it back and reordered it then the correct on field style came, but becarefull and put a new volt reg on i had a bad reg and as soon as i hooked up the new alt it fried right away.

Ok I will check on that. Maybe I can just get a different alt.???
