Trying to solve my fuel gauge problems so I decided to buy a Bill Rolik 440 sending unit. Pulled out the Spectra unit and found fuel in the plastic float. (WTF?!?!?!). Quite the difference between Bill's unit and the Spectra unit. Bill's unit looks top quality. I've attached photos of Bill's compared to the Spectra unit. First 4 pics are Bill's unit. Bill's unit has (1) a metal strip instead of a wire running from the float apparatus up to the top (2) a brass float, (3) much beefier filter sock, and (4) the float apparatus is much beefier than the Spectra unit. No idea who makes Bill's unit though, came in a plastic bag.

Just installed it today. Now only if the the damn motor was installed to send fuel to. :(

Kinda hard to tell if things work or not if the engine isn't installed....

It's all about getting the car ready for the big start! But now I'm really keen to see how the fuel gauge works since I found the float with fuel in it.

Add me to the list of Bill Rolik supporters been buying parts from him for years!

Bill has always been great to deal with. I like quality parts. I just hope the electronic components are quality. That seems to be the issue with senders.

Do you have a link to Bill. I am looking for a replacement sending unit too

Okay, I'm kinda shocked. The el cheapo Chinese unit I bought off ebay is identical to the one you said is from Rolik. Same float, same filter cover. That Spectra unit looks like total garbage. Who puts a crappy plastic float in a fuel tank??? The Canadians are slipping.

Lets see some at home pics of your sending unit for comparison....

This is the one from the ad they had on ebay, and it's what I got. Price was $34.95 + $3.95 for shipping BTW. As I've mentioned before, there's not many factories making these things. I'm kinda surprised to see a second maker out there.

They are similar but there are differences between those two...Look at the outer face with its attachment to the tube and where the band attaches....This is relating to the first four pics btw...

Well, I know I for one don't care much about the outer face. They could emboss a smiley face for all I care. I need the unit to sent the right signal to the gauge. :)

I just can't believe the Canadians would make one with a plastic float!

You're missing the point....That difference means they are not the same manufacturer....Unless you find an NOS unit or send an original to get redone...All other faces are not original....Nos and a correct dated original are impossible to find, I have been searching for years. Until then the non Chinese sending unit from Instrument Specialties will have to do...Just because something is not important you does not mean another needs a correct unit that also is calibrated to work as intended.....

The plastic float is nothing more than an attempt to save cost and they do not care whether it works or not......
