Teen Suicide

Some will say that I have no right to comment since I have no kids. I have common sense though. I see a lack of Parental responsibility all over the state. SOME Parents dump their kids at school and expect the school to raise them. This is terrible. You cannot expect a kid to develop into a productive person if you fail to provide a positive influence. My Dad was not a gearhead car guy but he took me to the Sacramento "AutoRama" when us kids were little. He loved my Mom and provided a great upbringing for us. Mom was a "housewife/mother" so we always had her to see after school. None of the "Latch Key" bullshit.
 
I don't have kids myself but I have a Denise the meniuse He's actually a good kid he actually wants to learn stuff . His parents ignore him so he hangs with me and tags along I teach him everything we work on,he ask's I teach . He's a very smart kid being held back by his mother and step father ,real dad is a looser too. So I had the kid helping the neighborhood and I guess he was paying attention to me when I was offered cash . A 10 year old refused money said he was helping to just help . he says he wants to be a mechanic like me I got him off that quick I said why not fix tanks or helicopters! He got excited and said helicopters was the ticket! So he helps me fix things like the never ending generator repairs today ! Good kid bad parents!
 
Sounds like the honor student may have been a little less than an angel for doing what he did. Feel sorry for his family and all involved. But suing the school? To make taxpayers ante up $$ for the parents? THAT is just wrong!

Good job. Positive curiosities need nurtured. Otherwise they wind up as troublemakers in a few years.

Before passing comments lets all hope we never have to deal with what these folks had to deal with. That is why id hesitate to comment. No doubt the parents and family are devastated over there loss. Today in a ligation happy society were adds by attorneys on media are common, id think that people suffering first and then looking to lash out or just plain angry are influenced to sue for damages. Like it or not its there right to do so.
As far as what the school did, the parents should have been notified immediately. However id have to discuss that with teachers, specifically ones who work in the administrative end of schooling. I try and seek out the people who have some sort of experience as how i feel really might not be correct. If the parents deserve monetary damages i have no idea but shooting at the hip, looking to blame them or anybody else at this stage is something i don't do. Just my take on it.
 
If I took myself out for getting called into the office, I'd been dead by 5th Grade. Many times over.

So what do you call what your doing right now? Kid gets caught up in something we as kids his age never had to contend with and somehow becomes so unglued he kills himself. Yes i agree there is something wrong today and not just our younger ones either.
 
I'm a teacher and deal with stuff like this from time to time. Like any police investigation, timing matters, so having the kids in for a talk before parents come in is perfectly normal, as is lecturing them on worst case consequences of their action, even alleged action.

Police / parent contact is required, but not necessarily as a first step of a preliminary investigation.

But who knows, facts will come out, but either way, blaming the school is just BS
 
1st and foremost problem is the school talking to the kid without parents permission or being present. A counselor should have been present.
The school is most guilty for his death!

I see the parents have a part in the kids behavior or lack of it as well as class and forethought & thinking about what could unfold and what events it may bring down upon yourself.

Kids hormone glands run wild and disrupt clear thinking. That's what happened. He made it to home plate with a chick and afterwards it all went insanely horrible.

Truly a parents worst nightmare.

Kids today are freaking sensitive pussys ! Grow the hell up ! I got a broken back no job a pain in the *** wife ect I don't end it ! Parent's should get nothing it was there kids action not the school! People need to grow up !
 
The school is not responsible at all. That's like getting an *** chewing from your boss and you then go take your life. Should your boss be held accountable for you? No! So it's time for personal responsibility, since he was legally allowed to drive, he has shown that he is responsible. His parents are just gonna have to deal with the loss of their son, cut and dry.

Here's the problem - in many cases, it's illegal to inform parents regarding sexual issues / pregnancy / etc. neither you nor I know what laws guide these situations in that state, bit a police officer and a school Dean were present (police are being sued as well).

I also respectfully disagree with your assigning suicidal thoughts / attempts to teenage hormones. Normal thinking kids don't off themselves; this was a boy that harbored depression and had clearly harbored suicidal thoughts before this. As with most depressed people, he was good at keeping it a secret.

Hey, we'll all find out in time what the details were and what laws were broken...

IMO the kid sounded like he was taking it pretty well, "originally"
from what that article said anyway...
That article is all we have to go on...
IMO He must have gone thru something else after the
LEO & principles encounter, or the accuser 2nd party in the
alleged consensual sex video, turning him in...

I don't think the school or the police should be held as liable,
at all, they did what they were supposed to do, with in the laws,
according to that article anyway...
Again that's all we have to go on...

It's media who knows what the real truth is...

The kid was obviously sick or mentally disturbed,
to even think of taking his own life, no sane child would do that,
that's not rational reality/thinking even for a teen with raging hormones,
let alone actually doing it...
IMO the blame should lie with him alone & on his parents...
Who knows what happened after the parents got a hold of him ?,
let alone before he did the crap he admitted to & was confronted with...
There could be a **** load more to the story...
That kid certainly wasn't an innocent party...

IMO it should be thrown out of court...

The damn snowflake took himself out, it's over...
The blame should be on him &/or his upbringing...
 
after reading that article and a couple others, I just don't know how anyone could blame the school or the police officer. They followed the law, and correctly planned to keep it out of the courts (kids will be kids?)

I hope this gets thrown out
 
I think the kid may have been terrified of his parents not the law, perhaps they expected too much from him and he couldn't face them.
I think suing everyone is just greed on the parents part.
 
This kid was young and made a horrible decision. Suing won't bring him back. I don't see it making anything better.
 
well we all fall , then we pick ourselves up again . to many depend on others to pick them up again . we all need help from time to time . but we grow when we depend on ourselves , and life can over whelm . parents are to help there children over come . but help them , not run their lives . my dad tried to keep me from hotrods . and here i'm driving a hotrod and building more . i'm 62 in a few , he's 86 . he still shacks his head , can't understand why . i tell him its the forbidden fruit thing . he just doesn't get it . so parents have a hard road ahead raising any children . and most try to lead them straight , but as i say ''hell is all around us , with a entry gate at every step of the way '' .
