Ray Elder and I were good friends until his passing and often talked about restoring his Daytona that he raced. Well now working with his wife and family we found someone to restore the car and hope that the car will now be completed back to race condition. Ray has all the parts and even lots of extras there is three race hemi. This car will be a great addition to the winged car family and Nascar has already expressed interest to display the car in there hall of fame.

Nice. Pictures.

My son and I are restoring a white 67 Charger.
If you don't need all three race hemis, you could give one to me.
Elvis drove one too. Does that make any difference.
Nah. Just teasing. We already have a 440 in it.
I'm guessing you have some connection to a Boss 429

Little off topic but 67 white charger, Sweet! What color interior? Any chances you guys might create a build thread? Plus, a father son project:thumbsup:

I have seen photos of the chassis. It's a 71 and later style, not the original 1969. I guess that's ok if the car is presented as a replica, not Ray's original Daytona.

I didn't know there rule that a certain amount of the the car needed to be off the original car. As Ray told me these cars and chassis were updated when rules body changes happened . I can guarantee you that Ray Elder owns and drove this car. If you would talk to Ray's wife who was there and owns the car I can get you in touch.

The front end (nose, fenders) and the wing are from the Daytona. The rest of the car is later vintage, like 71-72.
The chassis, roll cage, bars under the hood, crossmember, axle, front suspension were never under a 1969 Daytona body. Heck, even the Charger body laid over the chassis is a 1968, not a 69.
Of course Ray drove this chassis, but not ever as a Daytona, since it was built after the fact when Daytonas were run. Examples: Look at the wheelbase. Doesn't fit because 1971 is shorter than 69. Look at the bars by the "A" pillars and the under roof bar. Again, does not look like Ray's Daytona.

I don't get it why do you even care you must have nothing else to do . When the car is complete the only one who will know what went into this build is Ray's wife Pat not you . I suggest you mind your own business and let them finish the car and tell the story themselves. Every form has someone that takes it upon themslves to be a know all I see this form is no different.. I can tell you know nothing about this car . Let them finish the car and LET THEM TELL THE STORY . Again if you wish to talk owner Pat Elder I can put you in touch in the mean time I suggest refrain from any other comments unless it is useful. Respectfully 429bossman

Please also remember to keep comments here civil towards each other.

BTW, I like the history surrounding these old race cars.

Me too. I stick with vintage and current photos... Let them speak for themselves.

This conversation would have never happened if you would have just followed what you just said and let the owners and the car speak for themselves about the History . Let them finish the car.

Just from a pure observation stand point , the current car in primer is definitely not the same 69 Daytona that's shown in the first pic. Maybe some sheet metal but not much more. Anyway , I think it's great that it's at least being built again instead of tossed in the trash like most were

Curious....How is this simple line of questioning/fact checks holding up the build?

Maybe some of this information being presented may even be helpful/beneficial to that build......It is a forum, a discussion and a collaboration to obtain some accuracy of knowledge/history on a particular topic...

I was done with all this and moved on but

I'm not sure what you mean holding up the build that's not happening. What I mean is let them finish the car to see what they used in the final assembly before you pick it apart.
You said some info might be beneficial to the build they do not need help let them finish then you can go at it.
MY post did not start out as a discussion about the car it was I never asked for help just thought it would be cool for those who care about this stuff to hear about it.

You are showing pictures so ????? That's nice ????? . I let Ray wife look as some of the first pictures you posted and she says does not know where they were taken and not all where Rays car. Now if you know more than her will put you in touch .

Your statement in a previous post "let them finish the car" that is why I stated about holding up the build.....It is your implications that leads a reader to think it is being held up by an individual? That's all....Lighten up...

I think the history of wingcars in racing, the drivers/owners and this build to recreate a piece of history is great!
