1968 Charger 5.7 Build

What radiator did you guys use that are running the Gen III's ? My car had a brand new one in it but both outlets were on the passengers side. I need one with the top on the drivers side and bottom on the passengers side. My radiator support is for a 22 inch opening. Bolt holes are 25 1/4 inch center to center. Recommendations?

My radiator is the 26" unit with both inlet and outlet on the passenger side since the 6.1 has both on the right. If you have any aspirations to add vintage air, you may want to consider replacing the core support with a 26" since you will be doing a lot of other body work. I bought my radiator from Bouchillon and it came with the dual fans but I think you can find an acceptable unit for much less than what I paid. Plus, I am not happy with the noise my fans make. There are tons of them out there. If you want the best, contact Bob at Glen-Ray Radiators in Wausau WI.

Thanks sixpack, I am thinking about air for sure. Not sure which brand of AC yet. I am so far ahead of my budget right now (knock on wood) because so far I have made everything work that I had except the oil pan and pickup tube. I still have to buy my wiring and computer too. But just fitting things now before I start really getting into building my car. I have a very long way to go. But things are going very well so far. And I really like the way it is fitting. Should have no issues with putting a power break booster in with where the engine is now.

Power brake booster should not interfere at all. Just make sure to get the dual ballast booster. I made the mistake of using the single ballast that came with the car. It did not have enough boost for the front discs. I had to enlarge the hole in the firewall a little to make the dual ballast unit fit also.

I will be doing a lot of shopping and pondering now. And hopefully getting a lot of suggestions (on different brands) from you guys here. I think I want to look into disc brakes all the way around. I was going to rebuild my stock suspension but now I am looking at aftermarket upper and lower control arms even though I went with my original K member. They have to be better than the 50 year old ones I have. I have extra disc spindles from a 73 charger and was told they would work. But some times I think your money ahead to just buy a whole kit with everything new.

I am running an aluminum rad from Northern Radiator. They are pretty economical on price and work well. I found mine for $50 on craigslist. I think its about 24" wide. I made my own mounts to hold it in place.

Well it has been a while but after moving my mother-in-law from eastern NE.to our house after her stroke (for good may the Lord help me) and removing everything from her apt. and a week of company I finally got back on my build again. I built my transmission mount using a combination of the truck mount and the original mount for the charger. So now I will unbolt everything and drop it out so I can start body work. Of which I have a lot of. I will post up pictures soon incase any one is interested in what I have done. But I have managed to install my 5.7 and 545 with the only cut being a small place for the one sensor on the drivers side of the transmission. My exhaust manifolds will work with out modification. I was able to use my original drive shaft with just changing the yoke for the transmission output shaft. My heat shield on the exhaust manifold just clears the steering sector. Still a long way to go but liking the fit so far.

If you want AC and are not worried about original look under the dash check out Classic Auto Airs AC system. My Coronet was originally an AC car and their kit came with all the block off plates to install their system. CAAs kit comes with about a 10+inch smaller heater box which should give you plenty of room under the dash. The only thing I did not like about their kit was the routing of the AC lines on the drivers side. They come through a space in the core support and around the battery and across the engine to the passenger side. The original lines went up and over on the passenger side of the support. CAA has kits for B body Mopars with or without AC. Their kit also replaces your factory def/heater controller. It is a stand alone system and all it needs is a 12V source from the electrical system.

Got a picture? My hemi is a truck hemi and my compressor is on the drivers side. So might be something to look into. And thanks for your input.

You can see where the lines route on the front then they terminate past the battery and head towards the compressor.

These pics are a few years old. You are further along in your build then I am. I am going to be installing a 6.4L, similar to yours it is a lower drivers side compressor mount. My plan is to run the lines low in the engine bay and probably under the radiator?

Don't mind the wiring mess. You can see how much shorter the heater box is. With the extra space I made a plate to mount the painless wiring fuse block, door popper control and circuit breakers for the door power, along with the AC controller (green and yellow thing). The kit also comes with all the ducting and the attachments to the vents.
Here is a link to their kit. When you call the company make sure you tell them you have a B body car with out original AC. They sent me some non AC car parts. I had to explain to the new guy they were wrong and what parts I needed.

Thank you for the pictures. As far as being farther along probably not lol. I fitted my engine and trans. first but have a ton of body work ahead of me. I have the whole floor out right now. Had to replace the TB cross member and the floor was a rotted mess. I am coming along but will also need to replace the trunk floor , tail light panel and both rear quarters will be changed. I will be talking to classic auto air for sure. With what I am spending and what I want the car for I will have AC. It looks like you have a good body to work with. My quarters aren't that bad but would need the lower portion patched. I don't like patch panels so bought whole quarters. If I had it to do over again I would go with the bigger newer hemi. But there were two in my area in wrecked trucks so I bought them both lol.
Thanks for the post.

Fair enough. This was July of 2013. It has been a long process.

After a little research when it comes time for your AC connections look into Bouchillon. They might have the right kit or fittings for the compressor.

Well a bit of an update on my build. I finished up my transmission mount for the 545. It sits about 1 inch lower than the 747 did but it will work very well. My drive line is a little straighter than I like but will work. Also cut out the floor and installed a new TB cross member and now finishing up a new one piece floor. Will post pictures of motor mounts I made after I get the finishing touches on them.

Well OK haven't posted up anything on my build in a while. And the reason is it has been slow going. I knew I had rust in the trunk pan. And like the floor pan I wanted a one piece instead of patches. I started by removing the rear valance because I suspected a little rust. Well turns out someone was one heck of a sculpture. This thing was all bondo over screen. After that I noticed a couple pin holes in my tail light panel. And I started cutting out rusted metal and well....this is where I am at now. But the good news is I am seeing real steel now. So I think I am about ready to start installing new parts. Of coarse when I finish this I still have to replace both rear

quarters. I just have to finish cutting out the rest of the trunk pan clean up the frame rust protect and start putting it back together. Did I mention how bad I hate welding lol. Also both rear spring hangers were all but non existent.
