I have a 67 Charger and when I turn the key to the auxiliary position there is a loud buzzing noise coming from what seems to be the distributor? When I crank the key the noise goes away. Also when in the auxiliary position I got a good shock from the coil wire, is that normal?

With the engine running, if you turn the key quickly to the ACC position, will it keep running?

Are you running points or electronic ignition?

Electronic ignition. Its a 383 btw. It was converted by PO

Have you popped the cap at all to see if there is any arching going on? Bare wires, rotor or cracked cap?

No I have not, I will tonight and have a look over it though.

Bad coil/ground?
The same thing was happening with my Bee. My tach would even read about 1500rpm. Changed the engine harness, no longer an issue.

I pulled the distributor cap off and found this inside. There is a burn mark on one of the contacts. Actually melted it some.

Would this cause a loud buzzing noise? And why is it arching to begin with?
