Can anyone who has these tell me the overall length?

You can make these to whatever height that suits you. Last set I made was 18in & 20in, theres about a 2in difference

I use 1/2" pipe. Weld a set of threaded pins on top, so you can adjust. Drill a hole on the bottom side to line up with the holes on the car's pins, so you can push the clips through to secure the rods with another set of clips which you'll bend slightly to wrap around the steel pipe.

Well I started with some 1/2" EMT and some large fender washers , just realized I forgot to weld the nuts to the pipe/washer first then weld on the washers so I going to start over. I'll weld the nut to the back of the washer first then add the pipe. the threaded pin fits in the 1/2 emt pretty well maybe an1/8" play all around so centering is fun. I started with 25" of pipe I'm 6'3" and my wife is 5'11" so I wanted it up some. I was doing some reasearch and found a guy back in 2010 was going a limited run of adjustable stainless steel rods with custom base and top wow it looked awesome! too bad those are not made by someone.

Very nice. Love the A12 look etc. Look like a PIA though. Happy to enjoy the effort of others.
Dropped, scratched, scuffed etc. Breezy conditions.

Where did you get the poles?

I located stainless tube and my buddy welded the pins on for me. They are a pia, but I don't put the hood on the roof anymore. Takes two people to put the hood on the poles. I usually just put it on the ground unless it's an actual show. Here's the only close up I have.

Well here is what I came up with so far lol don't laugh I total suck at welding so much so I am trying to hide my bad welds with rubber tubing. So I wanted to use the pins again on different poles so I decided to weld the nuts in place so the pins could go in and out. On these first poles using 1/2" conduit which I will never do again because the walls are so thin you burn right through them welding sux. have to be gentle. while looing at t the nut I figured out that this nut fits perfectly in a 1/2" pvc sprinkler pipe fitting! lmao so I had the idea of slipping the nut in there and connecting a tube, 1/2" pipe is small and seemed weak so I upsized to 3/4" pvc pipe and used a reducing connector 3/4 to 1/2" and then painted it flat black. it feels sturdy and solid. see pictures, again set it up so the pins could be taken in and out so I don't have to buy more pins. Also may consider having these pvc ones painted body color. Still going to make a set of stainless steel ones but will use the same idea of re using the nuts. I think for these cheap ones they will work great around the house and when the stainless ones get done will be great for shows.

I know these are cheesy but hey I'm a total noob at this so go ahead and laugh it's ok, I'll have the stainless ones made by a welder here locally lol

I guess im preparing for it when the car comes home been trying to figure out a contraption to hoist the hood off after its parked and hook it up high enough to work on the engine with it out of the way lol the mind goes all over when there is the smallest need haha

Talked to my local welding shop showed him the mock ups and talked about what I wanted and we came up with close to 1" diameter aluminum tubing, he is going to weld in some solid insets into the inside of the tubes then drill our the bottom for a snug close fit on the bottom and do the same on the top except thread the hold for the pin. We tossed around some ideas and we talked about the ones on ebay and others etc and after the mock up you realize that if you go to tall you risk them getting out of shape and possibly falling over, this was more true with the smaller gauge tubing (1/2"). glad I made the plastic ones in 3/4" since they not only look beefier but showed you need something thicker over all for rigidity. The ebays ones are 19.5" total and he has some 17.5" ones as well for rake he says lol cool I guess. Mine are going to be 22" since I'm 6'3" I don't want tall people to break their necks to look in

Picture is mock up only I'll post the finished ones after i get the aluminum polished

I've put 35,000 miles on my bee. Lift off hoods are a total PIA!

They are a pain in the *** - but they look cool as all hell. I've had one of the GTX for many years and get lots compliments. Taking it on and off is a hassle. I have the poles too - but only use those for shows.
