0ne owner 1967 GTX restoration

Loved this thread! Great story and build!! My friend has a 69 Road Runner he bought off his brother for a dollar. His brother bought it new in 69 out in CA. Has the orig. paint and interior but the drivetrain is gone. I drool over his car every time I work on it with him.

GTX garage makeover

July 31, 1967 the car was delivered at Howard Motors. To mark the occasion I did a little home improvement to my retro showroom garage.

I just went through the entire thread here....I am impressed. You have a very nice car there. Congrats on being able to keep the car in the family and to you for spending the time (and money) bringing it back to its' original glory.

Thanks for your comments. It really has been a great car and lots of fun. It is all because Petty was winning just about every race that year, no to mention Sox and Martin!

Great looking Garage .......

Thanks!

I installed the date coded plug wires, tan distributor cap and heater hoses with pentastar and part number. I also put in the tappet scliencer pad that goes under the intake manifold and took the paint off the number pad on the front of the block.
There is a good shot of the engine in the 1967 Belvedere brochure and the number pad is unpainted.
The instruments still have not come back. They have had them since January 10th. The website said five week turnaround.

Any tricks on how to keep the tappet pad from rusting, without just putting oil on it?

The tappet silencer actually cancels out noises from the lifters?

Yes it does quiet lifter noise. It does not rust. It is foil wrapped fiberglass insulation and it sits on the valley pan intake manifold gasket.

Sorry, I meant any tips on how to keep the number pad from rusting?

I sanded mine down and clear lacquered it. It has been 10 years, no rust.

Tomorrow 50 years ago the GTX rolled of the St. Louis Assembly line. Delivered to Moran Motors in Baton Rouge LA, Dealer Transferred to Howard Motors and delivered to my brother on July 31, 1967.
Earlier this month my brother died at 66 years of age. He was 16 when he bought the GTX. I wish he could have made the 50 year anniversary.
He wife gave me a binder he made of printouts of this thread. He was really proud of the job I did on the restoration. He got to see it in another World of Wheels show in 2011.

That has to be one of the last 67's to roll off the line!
They are great cars!

I am so sorry to hear of your Brother. My Brother favored the 67' back in 69' when he bought his new Roadrunner. However, as time went by he blew off muscle cars ,and was a tight *** his whole life. However, he was diagnosed with cancer at 60 as he was preparing to retire from the Maricopa County Sheriff's dept in Phoenix in 2014. I flew to salt lake city to Inspect a 67' GTX at his request as he finally bought one before he died. He enjoyed it two years, then it was over.
I say enjoy what you want right off, don't wait around.
You never know when your ticket will be punched.
I have two 67's, and when he came to visit, he just shook his head. Fatigue and regret was all over his face.
I felt terrible.

Cool to read such a great story of a car being cared for by the same family. Especially so close to me. I feel ashamed but I can remember when Katrina came thru. I am so much of a car guy first that that's all I could think of was all the flooded cars. I know. That's stupid. Worked for a body shop that ran wreckers down there for months hauling flooded cars to Copart. Glad to hear of one making thru it.
