Is this motor a good deal?

Thanks Bru but it's not my engine, I am considering buying it for an A body project I am working on. I just posted it here to get my esteemed member's opinions on it.
Honestly, I would offer the guy $1,000, and if I were him I would rip the money out of your hand. :)

RC and many others,
Many people LOVE the 318
We must remind ourselves that this forum is not simply about Mopar Muscle
Anyway, rebuilding a 318 is pricey!
We must also remind ourselves that the topic being discussed is how much should be paid for a 318 and not to debate big block vs small block. :) The reality is, and has been for some time, that while these are some folks who love small blocks, they are a clear minority, and those who love 318s, need a 318, are in the market for a 318, and are willing to spend $X for an engine and shipping is REALLY small, so while we may look at someone dropping say $3,000 into an engine and saying what a "fair" price would be, we also need to look at what market conditions are. This goes to my point of why it is foolish to make big investments in a low-demand engine. If things go wrong, and the project dies, you have little chance of making much of your investment back.

If a 318 fits for you, I say it sounds like good motor. The only thing I change is the street master. My bro. and me, use one on a 318. We thought it was ok, but my bro. wanted to try a Weiand action+plus. the weiand kick the "Crap master" *** all in every way. Pat

Guys I'm a small block fan . I just got a built big block in the charger I got and I honestly wish it was a small block car ,the car drives so much worse with that behemoth under there . Now it has its positives I'm not going to lie the power to cash ratio is much better. But reliability I give to the small blocks . You don't see small blocks cross auction blocks because the owners love them and want to keep them the big motor cars are a pain after it's all done the owner says dang wish I left it alone sells it and buys a small block car again!

But it's in our dna bigger is better! I just love when I can walk away from a big block in my 340 !
Apparently there are more affectionados than you counted on. It is a mistake to Imply to many of the followers of this site that only Big blocks are popular, or worth any money. Many readers are likely younger hobbyists, that actually might believe the myth that only Big block cars are valuable. I believe this is FBBO, not FBBBBO.(Big blocks only)Think for a minute a newby knows of a clean original with a small block, but passes on it because he was told of the myth. That is one less enthusiast that won't buy a nice old car. Bad for the Hobby. Then Imagine for a second the likelihood that a fellow Mopar Guy owns that car, and wanted to sell it in order to get another, or move up. he can't sell, Then, The owner of the more expensive car can't sell. and, the newby gives up, because he listens to the Myth that only big blocks are valuable, so since he can't afford one, he does nothing. If you want to keep the hobby locked up to only the few that can afford that Roadrunner or R/T, that is a good way to do it.
There is a large group of people that follow this site that are Visitors, and we don't know what level of experience they have. I do not ever encourage young Inexperienced enthusiasts I meet
to Buy small block cars and try to sell them on "converting to a big block".It is not in the best Interests of the hobby to create money pits for the newbys.
It may be hard to believe, but When Millenials see my small Block dart sedan, they say: I love the whites,or Finally four doors!" Kids today do not care for Hardtops, and did not grow up with them, or Big blocks.

I'm not quite sure what your reading or if you ment to quote someone else. But I said no such thing that small block cars are worthless . In fact it's quite the opp. I love small block cars and I hate big block cars! I encourage people buying small block cars because there cheaper to build 99% of the time so they don't get to deep in and loose interest! You might want to 're read my post you might of miss understood me !

The dart wagon I am considering for this 318 currently has the leaning tower of power 225 in it.

No, you are good. I was agreeing with you. I was responding to Bruzilla. He referred to affectionados. I am guilty of the above label, as I have a car with every engine Chrysler made from 1960-70 in Multiples.(sold the Hemi) So I drive every model with the slant six thru the 440 GTX. They all have positive attributes, and the Hobby needs people that support the A,B,and C bodies as well. We all need to support the different types of Mopars. Buying and driving the diverse styles only helps all of us with values.
My response to the original post is this:
If you build an engine for a car, you should use it, or you will lose it. Regardless if the engine is a 225 or a 440, if you have to dump it, 50% is the best you can hope for. I have seen exceptions, but only in the 68-71 340 style, and 383-440 HP stamped engines built by reputable folks.
I own a 340 and a 383 dart, and the 340 definitely is more fun to drive. But When I cruise, I drive a 66' Coronet sedan with a 68' 340 Engine. it is a real pleasure, and all the young guys love it.

You're right... this is a Mopar site, so it should come as no surprise to anyone there are some small block fans on here, but sadly there are about as many as I counted on. :( Once again... how many strings on here are dedicated to how to swap a small block into a big block car? Sorry, but while I know there is a minority of you out there, you come nowhere close to the size of the majority who are big block folks, which is clearly evidenced by the weekly "How do I replace a SB with a BB" threads, the total absence of SB B bodies at auctions, etc., and this needs to be taken into account when answering a request for what an engine is worth.

Bottom line, a well-built big block is going to sell for more money than the best built small block, especially a 318.

Sounds like a good engine and good deal if you want a hot street 318 engine.

Bigger is always better
Same goes with TVs. My son just went to buy a big screen and I told him to buy the biggest they make. That way there will still be someone interested in buying it when he wants to upgrade again and he'll get some of his money back. I see hundreds of 50" or less TVs for sale on Craigslist and no one wants them at the prices being asked. Why spend $400 on a 53" TV when you can buy a good 60" for $500?

Well i'd like to have it in my 73 Dodge/Fireball class(i)C.
