i can relate to the above statement by miller, "Dangit! Miss the smell of avgas and raw aluminum." i am not saying i miss it but i understand what you are saying. brother bought me a ride in this over the summer and you could definitely smell both.
Yeah, sure do miss it!
Don't miss having to put up with many of the CAF a$$holes, that go along with it.
Still irritated about another B-17, Texas Raiders, since the 17 is my choice of all wing flappers. Never had a chance to go upstairs in one, though been in several.
Couple crew members off 'Raiders', standing around, admiring 'Big 'ol Brew, the B-25 I was on, asked for a ride. Sure...and a ride on Raiders, in return. Well, they got a good ride...but, when we walked over for our turn...reply was, don't know what the hell your talking about!

btw...love those grass-cutting photos! Something we used to do all the time.

I'll bet the founders of the CAF are rolling about the asshats that run it now. Used to be a good group.

The original idea was great! Original people probably so. But, it takes gobs of money, to make those things airborne...doctors, lawyers, and such. Never thought much on ones who thought they had better rights, over the ones who keep 'em upstairs.
Heck, I was even a member...for a whopping two weeks...before they got/took the 25.
Old story.

I read Martin Cadin's book, and he shared the feeling. The CAF seems to have lost their way over the decades.

when we had our surround sound system, I'd watch that part with the volume cranked!
I got to see The Movie Memphis Belle fly not long after the movie was made. I was driving a delivery van, and I heard the unmistakable sound of radials, I looked around and there was a B-17. I knew there was an airshow at a local airport so I headed there, and she had just landed by the time I got there. Beautiful sight and sound.
