New bullet for the "Brick"

Big Brown showed up today.
 
While the car is down I'm going to make some changes to the transmission. Currently its got a reverse pattern Cheetah VB in it, I'm going to upgrade to a JW Transbrake VB and I'm going to put a low gear set in it also.

Disassembling the VB to clean it - it was in a previous trans that had a catastrophic failure.

Over the years I've had the worst luck with transmissions in this car. Seems like every time I pay somebody to build a trans I end up pulling it back out. This has happened 4 times over the years and when it happened the last time I was so pissed I decided to study up and build my own transmission. I figured if it going to fail why pay somebody else money. So the trans in it now is mine and it went in and stayed in. Very gratifying - when I drained the oil the other day it was still bright red . . .

Today I got my 14 year old daughter out in the garage to help me get the block ready to be hot tanked. She knocked out all the freeze plugs and removed all the oil galley plugs.

Here she is knocking out the old cam bearings using her Grandpa's old cam bearing tool.

Also while the engine is being built I am going to install a Dana 60. I had this housing narrowed and I just got my 35 spline Moser axles. They have a 1994-2004 Mustang "hat" so I can run mustang disc brakes. They are relatively light weight and I will still have an emergency brake. I know - "why emergency brakes on a race car" . . . I like to call "the Brick" a street car that I race.

Today my BCR girdle kit showed up. I also got their billet seal retainer. Got $100 bucks off the girdle kit - thanks Jerry!

That is one sweet GIRDLE....
My motor does NOT have a roller cam and only 12.2-1 CR and still goes 10.170 @131+mph. Your New Motor with a big roller cam and if you give it 13-1 or so you will absolutely go into the 9's.
PS: When I had my Standard Port INDY EZ Heads brought out to Max Wedge Size PLUS had them ported to flow about 340cfm I picked up a full 3/10s of a second. I had my INDY Max Wedge Dominator Single Plane Intake Manifold cleaned up (ported ?) at the same time.
So...with your new Edelbrock Dominator Max Wedge Intake and porting your EZ heads will give you the HP you need to go into the 9s'. That Cool Girdle looks like it will make the strength in the bottom end to handle the 800+HP your new motor will be putting out. I figure my motor makes about 750HP (tops) and I only have the more standard 440 Steel Billet Girdle and 440 Source Steel Billet Main Caps so I am not comfortable making more than 750HP without risking blowing my bottom end out.

You all well know that good is not cheap!! As hard as it is to afford a megablock,I bought one knowing it would be the last block I will ever NEED.Building a 700 to 900 HP stock messaged block is done all the time,,,,but it's ticking.
And commend you for teaching your Daughter how it's done.Priceless lesson and I hope she stays till the hit of the key!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::)
 
Update - I took the block to get the cyl walls sonic checked, turns out the walls are too thin. I found a Mopar perf. block in Vermont but decided against pursuing that option too. I talked to a friend who is a NHRA Stock Eliminator racer and he sold me a block that he claims will go .060 over. I'm going to get it sonic'd myself, "trust but verify" - Ronald Reagan.
