Convertibles already have factory fitted torque boxes so you should be good there. Sub frame connectors on a convertible are a very good idea - essential I'd say considering the way you plan to go. A convertible unibody has the inherent rigidity of a cooked lasagna sheet. Put your car up on a hoist and see how much it bends - my door gaps grow about half an inch when lifted on my 2 post hoist!!
Many make their own connectors (as I am planning to) - it isn't hard if you have the extra time and skills required. Connectors come in 2 varieties - bolt-in or weld in. Weld-ins are stronger and can be made to look almost like they came from factory, but require interior removal, preparation, welding, painting etc. Bolt-ins are way easier and can be removed easily too. Choices, choices...
