A friend sold his boat and was cleaning out his garage and offered me some oil free! Of course i took it. Free is always the right price. Thirty quarts of racing oil. The problem is most of it is straight 50wt. Eighteen quarts pennzoil gt racing, api sg/cd, some valvoline racing 50wt sg, some valvoline vr1 racing 20w/50.
I'm about to break in a new solid flat tappet in a ring-and-bearing 440 for my old bracket car, and i was planning on using delo diesel 15w40 and lucas zinc additive for break-in, then the diesel oil after that. The question is- can i add a quart or two 50wt to the mix after break-in? I dont know how much if any zinc is in the 50wt racing. Im using a seven quart milodon pan, one quart low. Thanks for any help guys.

IMO, ONE QT. WONT MAKE A DIFFERENCE.WHAT DOES THE LABEL SAY ON THE 50 WT ? I WOULD GO TO THEIR WEB SITE TO CHECK ZINC CONTENT. I RUN THE VALVOLINE VR1 20/50 IT HAS VERY HIGH ZINC PHOSPHATE.

Pennzoil 50wt racing says on the bottle" advanced additive system minimizes piston scuffing and camshaft,/follower wear, and providesmaximum bearing protestion." This, plus the older sg/cd rating says to me it might have plenty of zinc. I am more wondering how thick the resulting mix would be,and how well it would work with .0025 main and rod clearances.

Well, you could find someone with loose engine tolerances, like a Ford, and sell each quart for $4 - that's $120 to you!

You can regift some of it, I could use 7 quarts of the VR1 lol
Man, he slapped the RED X on you!

According to pia, ap
sg is obsolete , to me meaning it probably has too much zinc for cars with cat/cons.
(Also, there was only three quarts of 20/50 vr1, i know how to use that! Lol)

Just did my 62 361 Hp with 20/50 racing oil $7 per quart at Advance auto...Auto zone no longer handle it.

There are No Orielly's any where near here.....but they advertise around here a lot.
Go figure.
