Need to get a Hurst shifter stick rechromed. Anybody have any recommendations for a reasonable/reputable shop? Open to anywhere except Tri City. Thanks.

Paul’s chrome is one of the best, and also the most expensive.

LiBrandis in Middletown PA. Quality is good, I use them because they're local, no shipping.

Northstar plating does a very good job. I would call them. In Brainard Mn

I thought Advanced had another fire and was closed. Ogden in Utah is also very good. They plate for Kindig and JDM among others.
Tim

I have used J & D plating in St. Paul MN for my stuff. They have done a good job and are reasonable with quick turn around. Plus, Gary is a mopar guy and a member of Midwest Mopars. email [email protected] or phone 651 251 7400

Tri-City has done numerous bumpers for me. Can't beat the quality, but the last time I checked they didn't do small parts.

Custom chrome plating in Grafton Ohio.
Top notch quality and a keen understanding of leaving the correct details.
Lots of shops polish the piss out of everything and ruin things in the process.

Any particular reason not tri city ?
They did a horrible job on rechroming the original bumpers on my 69 Charger R/T. The bumpers were not bad to start with, so they cant use that as an excuse. Waves and so many sanding/grinding marks that I would think they would have been ashamed to send them out the door. I also had to send 2 of the bumperettes back because their stud repair was so flimsy that I broke them off with finger pressure. They did take care of the stud issue after I had to pay shipping back to them. I didn't even mention the poor quality of the bumpers because there was no way I was paying that return shipping. Car is sold now so I don't have to look at them anymore, but I sure as hell would never send them anything else.

I have a pair of 70 Coronet grill trims at Ogden Chrome currently. Ones that came with my car were nice but one had a huge scratch. So I bought a spare pair off eBay for a good price and sent them directly to Ogden. We'll see how good a job they do in a month or so. They certainly aren't cheap.

Was this recently ? I've had all of my bumpers done by Tri-City and they always came out nice. I hate to think this a downward spiral for them the way many once-good companies have trended as of late. One Bumper Boyz is enough.

No, 2014. On top of those issues, I thought he was extremely rude and self centered. Just somebody that I never want to talk to again.

I had 2 bumpers done at your northern neighbor: https://www.northstarplating.com/contactus
Mike

North Star did my bumpers too. Its been about 10 years ago now, but nice work at least back then. They are affiliated with Keystone Automotive some how or other. I took my bumpers to a local Keystone outlet and they shipped them to North Star on the company truck for free.

Wow, just looked at their price list. Almost 70% increase since I had mine done.

Northstar just did the rear bumper on the 64 wagon and it came back looking Very nice. I also had a rear bumpers done for a 66 Barracuda and a 66 Dart a couple of years a go and they came back very nice. I know the plating is way more costly then a few years ago. Northstar also does small parts. They showed me a hood ornament for a 56 Chev that had the wings broke off and they were repairing it.

So this is what $1700 buys you from Ogden Chrome:

Those scratches are way deeper than they look in the photo, they go down to 2mm deep or so. Right through all layers of chrome into the steel. Packaging was like Ft. Knox and completely intact so it was not shipping damage. Some clown at this shop actually wrapped them like this and thought I wouldn't notice. There is absolutely no chance they didn't see this, you would literally have to be blind as a bat. If their response tomorrow is anything other than "we f*&#*# up badly, we will repair this ASAP and at no cost to you" they are going to feel the wrath of God (e.g. my credit card company).

They are claiming it must have been due to shipping damage, which again I find impossible due to the package being completely intact and in like six layers when I got it. Since they had them stacked perhaps the back edge of the top one impacted the bottom one -- which would have been entirely their fault for not covering the protrusions properly -- but I don't remember seeing any cuts in the internal wrapping either. I wish I had taken pictures of that before I opened it, which I will be sure to do from now on. However they are going to fix them for free, so I'm not arguing the point. The chrome outside of the damage is certainly show-quality, with no bubbling or waviness.

Ended up going with J&D Plating in St. Paul, MN. He got it done in a timely manner and it turned out great.
