Has anyone bought a steering wheel for a 67-69 B-Body like this recently? https://www.classicindustries.com/product/1969/dodge/coronet/parts/mw740.html They are manufactured by PG Classic. Here are some pics of what I received. I couldn't even get a 3/8" bolt started in the threads where a puller would attach because of the heavy rust. Got a dry tap in about 1/4". Didn't go any farther with oil in case I return it. Also my original has the ground wire coming out the rectangle slot of the hub leaving a lot more room so the wire doesn't get pinched when put together. Would you guys complain?

Known problem with the repop wheels. You have to file each groove to get it to fit. Total PITA......

I would definitely complain...send it back and pay up for an original restored one and be done with that.....

It's almost like they left the box open and in the elements on the deck of the ship on its trip across the pond.

If people accept this crap they’ll keep selling crap.

I'd complain , when I buy something it shouldn't come rusty unless it needs restoring .
Send it back like Moparnation said and buy a refinished original .

Looks like it was in the same salty container with my seat belt set!!! Send it back.

As for the threads.. probably metric, you'll find the horn contact plate attaches are threaded metric and need to be retapped 6-32 to reuse your OE hardware, so bet the puller bolts are metric too. I had no issues with the spline. Mine went on fine.

I agree with the other guys, I would pitch a fit on em. They want too much for their stuff to put up with that!

I agree, contact them and ask them to make good on the issue. Having to fit/modify a new part is one thing. But corrosion is completely unacceptable now matter who makes it.

Man that's BS. The rust is happening when they over mold the steel substrate and don't neutralize the acid residue afterwards. As far as the spline fitting be sure to get the master spline aligned on your steering column. If you've got the masters aligned and they still don't fit together I would clean it up put it back in the box and return for an exchange or refund. No excuses for all that corrosion on a new product. If it was me I'd send them back that **** sandwich...IMO

Well.....I just received one of these and really didn't look at it closely. Gone for a few days now, but will definitely inspect it when I return.

I bought a smooth '69 and a '70 grained 3 years back. Both were fairly clean, but did show a bit of light rust on the metal rim that's imbedded. Sprayed a bit of Krown on them to seep in. They're just using cheap steel and it's gonna rust, especially if they had a damp sea can on the boat, like the one my crusty seat belt set came on. We over mould steel inserts day in day out in our plastics plant making seat belt buckles and other components for TRW and Bendix. There is no need for any neutralizing if the steel was correctly coated or plated in the first place.

Well, I believe we have it all straightened out. I bought the wheel from my friend Jamie @ Mega Parts, who bought it from Classic Industries, who bought it from PG Classics. Just look at all the mark ups before this thing got to me, although Jamie is always very good on pricing to me. Jamie was leary of bringing in another one because he thought it would have the same issues. So I called Classic to see what they had to say. They of course were shocked to hear about how much rust was on it and the fellow I talked to guaranteed me he would open boxes and hand pick a good one for me. So hopefully a clean one is being sent to Mega and then to me. I will post a pic of what I receive.

Curious what your guys thoughts are on where they are bringing out the horn ground wire? I think it should come out the rectangle opening instead of the small round hole.

If PG makes any fuss to Classic saying didn't happen at their end I'll send you my crusty seat belt pics of salt corrosion. PG came good for those.

Horn wire.. I think mine was in the wrong spot, let me look at my pictures..

Yep, mine same deal. Pics of OE and repro. I left it as is and wire had enough slack in it to go around as shown. Worked fine.

Just curious what you paid for that wheel ? You can have someone refinish an original for decent money and know its done correctly .

$200. I didn't even think about having my original one redone and don't know what that would cost. I bought a repop one for my Road Runner back in 2005 and it was really nice and still is.
