I love root beer. I drink quite a few different gourmet ones that I have found in a liquor store. I also like grape soda.
I drink it cause it is delicious

Barq's is my preferred brand/taste but they all taste generally similar, and like root beer.

I could see someone who never drank it finding it odd.

I like Dr. Pepper too, maybe more

But I prefer Pepsi over Coca-Cola

In general I don't really drink soda, just have one here and there maybe once a week, but have always found they taste "good"

I know some people that cant stand soda so its just personal preference, and what you're used too.

As too why... its good because it has...
a) bubbles and is cold
b) a unique spicy, aromatic, herbal flavor... it's a pleasantly complex flavor IMO
c) I can drink it

yea, not all root beers are created equal

Bargs....IBC...and the bar aroung the corner makes a great root beer. black jelly beans are the best

Made me want one. Have one in the fridge most of the time.

Never question something you like, simple as that I guess. :) Crème soda is similar, but even better.

I don't like the taste enough to drink more than three sips. IBC, A&W, Mug, Stewarts, and Barq's are the only ones that I have tried. The Barq's tasted like something pulled up from an injection well at a DoD Superfund site.

I'll tell you what's nasty...Snapple. That stuff tastes worse than fruit flavored diesel fuel.

I love it. Drink all kinds Mug, Barqs, Dads, my personal favorite of the common kinds is A & W. Thats the stuff you use for a float. The ice cream also has to be of quality.
I also like 1919 brand lots, thats some Goood stuff!
I was unaware that Root Beer was unique to America. Oh well.

:lol::lol:

Can't say I've tried that!

Reminds of being a youngster on my bike back in the '60's with some friends and the time we went to A&W and I purchased a quart all for myself in the megaphone carton. It took awhile, but I finished it all--my reward was being able to whip out a huge burp!

Once we got cars, some of us thought it was funny to steal a glass mug from the A&W car hops without them catching on.

So we had a family dinner out last night for my older son's birthday. At a local "American" styled Diner....and I decided to try a Root Beer Float. I was looking forward to the new taste experience....but what I got instead has immunised me against several known communicable diseases for at least the next 5 years.

The taste and smell combined allowed me to only chug about half of it down....after that I had this incredible urge to purge my guts all over the place. reminded me of a smell similar to Horse Liniment, mixed with Vicks Vapor-rub.

My question is - How many here actually like the taste of Root beer? And WHY?

Answers below please. I personally cannot see the attraction. BTW it was a can of AW Root beer with Vanilla Ice Cream. No pics of that due to my disdain for the taste.
Like it with ice cream too

When you have a good craft Root Beer and good quality vanilla bean ice cream then they are good. Personally I like Mexican coke (made with cane sugar) with vanilla bean ice cream for coke float, but only when its warm weather.
Some may say no, coke taste the same everywhere but when you taste both , Mexican coke taste better because of the sugar, not corn syrup,

I LOVE it!
I don't care to drink it with a meal but I do like it on it's own. I love almost every brand that I have tried. Root Beer float ? Oh heck yeah! I get all wiggly thinking about those!
I know that personal tastes vary but I have a hard time understanding how anyone could LIKE black licorice but NOT like Root Beer !

, did it have a good fizz to it?

If it was flat it could change the flavor. I think it's one of those things you either like or don't. Licorice is definitely one of those flavors that people hate or love. I guess root beer could be one of those too.

I love licorice, birch beer, different candies with licorice flavor...

Eat a dish of vanilla ice cream, when finished then drink a glass of root beer quickly, then jump up and down. Root beer and black jelly beans, go together like... Mopars and hot looking chicks. There's nothing like the smell of black licorice, come to think of it, the guys would always carry some kind of black licorice things, little hard like tic-tacs things when they were drinking if IRC.
There was a song Black Licorice by Grand Funk Railroad that I remember of back in the day, don't remember much about it though. It's probably marked as a bad song by todays standards.

Those NECCO wafers, we used them as targets to shoot at with .22s. I do think the company NECCo closed up not to long ago or just stopped making the wafers.
Remember when the G & P's had lots more candy coating. Charlie needs to come back and kick somebody's ***.
