    First line above the ‘0’ is 5*BTDC. Each line is 5* either before or after. You’ll never go below the ‘0’. If you don’t have a “dial-back” type timing light, the easy way is buy a timing tape that sticks to the harmonic balancer. My tape had been on for 20+years.(wipe alcohol on balancer first)

    That choke plate seemed to slam shut pretty hard. Maybe take just a little tension off the thermostatic spring. I would also say those 4 pumps had it heading to flooded.

    Trickle some water down the carb,while revving it up(carbon buildup?) ; don’t drown out the engine. Hydraulic buildup is nasty!!

    1157's are a tad brighter and listed as heavy duty. Been that way for 50yrs. If anyone gets their hands on a WWGrainger catalog, they used to list all bulbs with specs.

    Have an ohmmeter? Unhook battery and check every wire from one end to the other for continuity. You could have a broken wire somewhere.
