Hi John, would this trunk lid be the same for a 65 Belvedere? And how is the cowl area on this car?

    68 with 60amp Alternator - Not Charging

Found it! This website below has a great diagnostic procedure. I believe it's the voltage regulator. Though new must be junk. If I disconnect the voltage regulator and the green wire from the alt and ground the green wires field connection, I get 16v (as this is the same as the voltage...

    68 with 60amp Alternator - Not Charging

How do you check a bad diode? Both old alternator and new alternator show the same problem...so not sure if that'd be it but definitely worth a check.

    68 with 60amp Alternator - Not Charging

It seems everything will run at full voltage with the car off key on. Even the B+ at the alternator is at 12.4v with the car off. Start the car. . . Drops to 11.4 at the alt B+ still 12.4 st the battery.

    68 with 60amp Alternator - Not Charging

Okay. . . I have an update. Voltage regulator is grounded and the blue field wire is on the correct side of the ballast resistor. . . However. . . At the high side of the ballast resistor and both field wires, I am only getting 11.5v. At the battery I am getting 12.3v. If I rev the car up...

    68 with 60amp Alternator - Not Charging

Thank you for the assistance everyone. I will be checking it out again tonight. Also, Mopars & Missiles, thank you for the explanation...I actually was not entirely sure how the system worked and that cleared it up quite well! I will double check the chassis ground to the regulator again, just...

    68 with 60amp Alternator - Not Charging

Yes, it has the newer regulator and the newer alternator. I traced the wires from the field connections and the green goes direct to the voltage regulator and the blue goes back to the firewall and splits with one going to the voltage regulator and the other going to the ballast resistor. I...

    68 with 60amp Alternator - Not Charging

The ballast resistor is a 2 prong. It has worked for probably 10 years as is and the ballast resistor was replaced recently due to a no start. It has two wires to each connector per side going to/from the resistor though. What's the difference between 2 and 4 prong ballasts? Yes, this is...

    68 with 60amp Alternator - Not Charging

Okay, I will definitely check that. I did scratch the paint on the regulator and check continuity to the chassis but perhaps its not a very solid ground.

    68 with 60amp Alternator - Not Charging

Hey everyone, I've been working on my dad's 68 charger trying to figure out why it's not charging...this is an out of nowhere scenario. It is a 1968 Charger with the 1970? charging system...60amp alternator. Battery, voltage regulator, alternator, and ignition switch are all new. Grounds...

New guy looking for a project.

Thanks everyone! And yes, that Charger is a part of the family. My grandfather wanted to trade "that dinosaur" in on a Subaru station wagon in the late 70s, but my dad begged him for it as his first car (rusty quarters and all). So my grandfather gave it to him just so he'd shut up. Haha...

Or swap in a 242 out of a junkyard 4.0L jeep. :) No body has reported breaking one yet in street use, included launching supercharged ones at the track. And then you have 2wd and 4wd selections instead of being stuck with AWD.

New guy looking for a project.

Hi everyone, I just joined up looking for an old b-body to restore with my dad. I'm 20 and have been a Mopar nut from birth thanks to him. My dad has a 1968 Charger R/T my grandfather bought new and my father and I restored a few years ago. I myself have had a few Mopars, but, mine have all...

Hey everyone, Just joined here looking for a project car. I'm looking for either a 68-72 Charger or 63 Fury/Belvedere/etc. Looking for one in decent shape. I expect needing restoration (obviously depending on the year Charger, will have a grand impact on value). But...let me know what you...
