I fit a full trunkpan removed from a 73 RR into my 71 RR. It is tight but will slide through the opening with a little persuasion. Good luck.

I would find a local outfit that does vapor blasting. I use it on vintage motocross bikes aluminum cases, hubs & other parts. I have a local guy that does it cheap. Then you can decide if a polished, painted or powdercoated finish is the next step.

Too long of pushrods? Perhaps someone tried to get more giddy up from the motor with a higher ratio rocker & required pushrod change and took his buddy's advice on what to put in instead of actully measuring...or his buddy gave him the parts to try.. My guess anyway.
