I was able to watch the great racing of the Super Stock era from the mid 60's and 70's. I was there when Ronnie Sox and Buddy Martin took it to the next level. They are from Burlington, NC and raced our local track, Piedmont Drag Strip. Don Carlton lived in Lenoir about 100 miles west. I was...
Does anyone know who owns the Reverned Mr. Black '64 Black Fury in the post above?
My buddy owned it at one time and sold it to someone in Texas many years ago. I saw it at a Richmond Mopar Show a couple years later. It was an original aluminum front end max wedge car. My buddy had a set of...
Several years ago, I took my 67 GTX to a car show sponsored by a local parts house. I parked my GTX beside a 66 SS 396 that was really a nice car for a Bowtie. The owner was a friend of the Parts House owner. He must have $30,000. in the car. It had a 572 crate motor, 5 speed Doug Nash trans...
Thanks...I tow with a 85 D350 with 440 t/flite. Does a great job and gets 9 to 11 mpg while towing at 10 mph over speedlimit. I was thinking of a reverse scoop similar to the bow-tie cowl induction scoops to let air out of engine compartment. I have a Ram-Air type air cleaner with 2 4" hose...
How did you like the aar hood? I went on their website to take a look. I would like one for my 85 crew cab. I have their bumpers on my 63 Savoy and I know they have good parts
It used to be a "good show'', but it's a bad weekend. I missed last year and this year does not look good either. They used to have it in July.. Bristol is a nice track but the "air'' is not that great...In my opinion.
My Dad liked Chryslers and Dodges. We had a 55 New Yorker with 331 hemi. He ordered a new 63 Dodge Pick and got a slide in camper. He bought a 66 Newport and another 66 Dodge Pick-Up he special ordered as a camper special. I drove them both out of the dealership. I still have the truck in...
Mark....Nice work and good info. This was a good thread. Everyone offered excellent input. My 2 cents worth is on a street/strip car everything is a compromise. You need to concertrate on your exhaust system using the biggest diameter pipes from the front to the rear along with the most...
Bill Blair from High Point, NC used to promote Nostagila Super Stock Drag Races. Lightweight Fords, 409 Chevy, S.D. Pontiacs and Max Wedge Mopars that kicked butt and took names. Bill once owned one of the 63 Ramchharger Dodges with acid dipped and alloy front end. Everyother spring was cut...
Bill Blair has several Swiss Cheese Catalinas. They were not many made. The frames and everthing else are full of lightening holes. Those were the days. The Maxwedge Mopars had GM and Ford wondering what hit them.
SSRacer has your answer. Jack it up and do the math. I use to street race and I have run everything from a 3.55 to 4.88 on the street. A 4.10 was the best street/strip gear on my 4 speed GTX. Basically you trade top end for bottom end. Run the talllest and widest tire you can.
A lot of good info posted here. Wheelstands do unload the car when it comes back down. But they are cool and I love them. The best advice I ever got was from a local racer who had been around forever and had seen it all. He told me to "Listen" to my car and keep a record of very run and...

That is a very nice car and my buddy is interested. If I had space in the shop for it, I would take it. I am car and project poor right now.
