Rotating the motor by hand won't move any oil through it. But you can use an oil priming shaft and do it. This requires removing the distributor and drive gear, and it will be necessary to rotate the motor 180*.

My running buddy always pulls the motor and trans together. Handy if you're gonna do work to both. Can be tricky clearance depending on oil pan etc. I've pulled some that way and also just the motor by itself. If I weren't gonna do anything to the trans, then I'd just pull the motor
I had a Sublime 70 340 Duster that I took to (and sold at) the Nats one year they were at Indy. I hit the swap meet area, bought a can of wrinkle black and repainted the breather there in the car corral. After about 1 hour in the hotass sun it was bone dry, and wrinkled like old grandma Sadie
