Is a Edelbrock 1406 are good carb?

I have only good things to say about the AVS2. I have the 800 CFM, electric choke, on the Coronet with a 440 and it runs fantastic. Idle is smooth with the annular primaries. It may give up some upper end hp to a double pumper, but I'll take the drivability and tuning ease.

Edelbrock carburetors and aftermarket air filters

I am running the RPM intake, and "stock" type air filters wouldn't fit under the flat hood. the original induction was a FiTech TBI and the K&N fit fine. No choke housing of course. I don't remember exactly anymore but even with the drop there was I think less than 1/2" space to the bottom of...

Ported vacuum advance or manifold. Let's debate!

Dropping the idle to 850 is probably the biggest reason why the dieseling stopped. Sounds like the engine wanted more initial if you had to also lean out the mixture. Did you dial back the mechanical after increasing the initial?

FiTech FI but general fuel line question

I installed the FiTech TBI along with their fuel pump/sump when they first hit the market in 2015. Back then they named it the Fuel Command Center, FCC, but the same concept as the one you posted. Granted it was their Ver. 1.0, looked a lot different than the current one, but it was a POS...

Edelbrock EFI Conversion - Pro Flow 4 XT

I have a Tanks Inc in the Coronet. Fit great and their customer service is excellent too. Funny about the push loks; I commented on them in one of my threads a couple weeks ago. They are a PITA. Did you wind up getting the Koul?

    I Finally Did It.....EFI

I warned you that EFI was going to give nothing but problems. :poke: I'm just kidding, of course. It's good to see that the system is working out.

    Went back to a carb

I got to the point that I was pretty proficient at tuning. I wasn't data logging, but I was fattening up the mixture at one end and leaning it out at idle, etc. Mainly I was working on solving the hot start issue. And then the handheld died. The decision to abort and go back to a carb was...

    Went back to a carb

There's not going to be a next time. I don't know if a shop install would've prevented the fuel pump, ECM, and handheld from failing. But, I've talked to lots of EFI owners at car shows and the majority of them had their systems installed by a shop. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that...

    Went back to a carb

All points well taken. In my case it came down to reliability vs drivability, although after a couple short sprints around town I don't feel I compromised there either. The Coronet and Dart are fair weather toys that never see rain or sub-freezing temps. I will say that the AVS2 is much more...

    Went back to a carb

Driving the car again this weekend gave more perspective. Idle is set at 850 rpm and with the fairly small duration and 110° LSA it idles real smooth. Off idle tip-in is incredible! One of the advantages of EFI is supposed to be the responsiveness , but I'm just sayin' the AVS2 feels better...

    Went back to a carb

The install was completed last weekend and since then I've driven the car twice. I don't want to drive it much yet because the original air filter won't fit, more on that later. The engine fired right up. Using a tach and a vacuum gauge I dialed in the best lean idle. BTW, I'm running a...

    Went back to a carb

With the fuel delivery system finished at the tank, what remained was reattaching the Lokar linkage and providing juice to the fuel pump and choke. The electrical was easy. Years ago I replaced the OEM distributor with a Pertronix unit which bypassed the ballast resistor. I just removed the...

    Went back to a carb

So Kiwigtx, I'm trying to piece together how you wound up; you eventually ran a Bosch pump but did you run the return line from the regulator or at the TB?

    Went back to a carb

Let me take a slight detour to talk about EFI hose and fittings. For those of you contemplating EFI and going to an in-tank electric fuel pump, the fuel lines have to be upgraded, both in pressure rating and size. Most of our cars are running 5/16" OEM lines; EFI standard is 3/8" or -6 AN...

    Went back to a carb

The thing is carbs rarely "break down"; they may run like crap but they'll limp you home. If the EFI quits you're left with a long list of troubleshooting tasks. At this point, the goal was to simplify my life.

All very valid points when installing FI. At the time of install I added a PowerMaster alternator and upped the charge wire to 8 ga., added grounds.

    Went back to a carb

There isn't a return line at the carb. The bottom port of the fuel regulator is a return line. If fuel perc becomes an issue as the weather warms up I may have to explore another return line

    Went back to a carb

Yeah, it comes down to how you use the car, how miles driven in a year, elevation changes, etc. I'm not going to turn this into an EFI bashing thread, and I know many guys that have successful EFI installs, my neighbor is one them. I'm no ace tuner by any means, but I can tune an Eddy carb...

    Went back to a carb

I clearly remember that day; first time either one of my cars had to be towed. And you're right, it's all about fuel movement. The FCC had a return line to the tank, but regardless, the cannister would get so hot after a long drive that you couldn't hold your hands to it. And it was obvious...
