I hope they are easy to find. I saw a set of early 14x5” last year at Farmington that I should have grabbed. Elongated holes are easy to spot but an out of round or bent wheel not so much - unless they are real bad.
How big an impact does elongated lug holes have on old steel wheels as far as balance and wobble?
Are there shops that can "true up" bent steel wheels ?
With the swap meet season almost here I want to look for some old 14" mopar wheels and want to make sure
what I find are usable..
Well, the new shoes are on. My only regret at this point is I may have gone too wide on the rear - given the stock nature of the car. 215x70-15s on 6” wheels up front are perfect. 245x60-15 on 8” wheels in back make it look a bit too hot rodded…
This is probably 10-11 years ago but there was a Mopar boneyard north of Fayetteville,NC that had several 62 Plymouths. All were pretty rough. It was called Peeden’s Garage. I’ll look if I can find a number or something for you.
Try this:
Billy West Racing Garage
819 Batten Farm Rd, Selma, NC...
I ran TTDs on my previous 62 Plymouth and loved the look on that car - however it was far from stock and more pro street. This one is bone stock and I hope the wheels don’t take away that feel too much.
Well, this is the look I’m going with. Just ordered a set of TTDs with Cooper GTs - putting the white to the inside though. Got tired of looking for a set of steel wheels to use and running these bias ply’s.. I’ll post a picture next week after I get them on.
A wide range of opinions, thanks for all the ideas. I kind of like the wire caps, at least over the OEM caps. My plan is to get an extra set of wheels that i will put radials on for local cruises and keep the bias plys mounted on the steel wheels for bigger judged shows. I may pick up these wire...
This was my initial first thought until i started running into supply shortages followed by huge price increases. If i have to buy a set of new mag style wheels the TTDs would be first choice. I was hoping to find a set of Mopar steel wheels that i could powder coat and put poverty caps and trim...
Im really torn on a decent look. It currently has the OEM caps and bias ply tires. I want to get another set of wheels to put some radials on but trying to come up with a look. If it was a hot rodded maxie clone i could run craigers or torque thrusts and be done but its a stock car…
Trying to find a new look for my 62 Fury. One possibility I’m thinking of is wire spoke wheels. I tried these spoke hub caps on yesterday to get an idea. They are from a newer Chrysler. They needed cleaning and polishing. What do you think? Maybe without whitewalls?
So far no one in my family...
This is the ad for the rims. Only way I could put the pictures here. Really nice looking wheels for $50 - plus they are right in my backyard… Maybe someone can use them..
15x6 wheels
im looking at a set of Ford 15x6” steel wheels. I know the bolt pattern will fit but will any of the dog dish Mopar hub caps fit on these? The raised center of the wheels look to be larger diameter than 10” and it is uniformly circular, doesn’t have the three nubs.
I’m thinking I might drop to a 245-60 for the back. The car is not a hot rod so there’s really no need to go overboard on the width. The Cooper GTs 215x70 is 26.7”OD and their 245x60 is 26.6”OD so they are pretty close. 1” difference in tread width just enough to be noticeable. Now to find the...
Yea, most of the tires I’ve looked at say the 7” is minimum for a 255x60 and maximum for a 215x70 that I am thinking of for the front. I want to get a new set of wheels/tires before the season rolls around and looking at options. Started by thinking I’d get all 7” wheels since it seems to be a...
